Memphis and WKU Possible Replacements Article

I would think Chaney before Gran. Not that Gran is not worth it. Just think that he would be more apt to move first. That is an awfully big wish list for WKU and even Memphis to some degree.

I don't think the timing is right, seeing as how the whole staff practicaly just got to Knoxville, and settled in. With that said, I'm sure its not out of the realm of possibilities. Gran and Chaney would both make fine head coaches.

I think Sanders is ready and Malzahn with that offence could stir up the boosters ( Fed Ex' smith ) especially with his kid transfering. Also, Malzahn still has alot of question marks maybe he shoulldn't hold out if it is offered.

How hard is it going to be for CLK to keep this staff in place for even another couple years? UT is just 5-4 and it seems like names are already flying around. Do the coaches under CLK want out?

This is a good thing. In past years, no one was that interested in our assistant coaches (other than Cutcliffe). This was less a function of the "loyalty" to the program as it was a reflection on the quality of our assistants. When your assistants are constantly being sought after, that means that you are doing something right. I want our coaching staff to remain intact for a couple of years at least, but I also believe that it is a good sign when they start getting job offers. It is a healthy thing in my opinion.

its just a copy cat league, if your on the upswing other people want a piece of what you have. i think we can keep this staff in place at least one more season. i could see chaney being a guy to leave if offered a hc job . i like him but he seems like he really wants to be calling his own plays

I've heard Memphis might go after Tiny Terry Bowden. I go to UNA, and it's been going around that he's leaving after this year.

This seems more likely and would be a good fit for both.

Agreed :clapping:.

Im a student at WKU and I would actually go watch the football games if Randy was on the sidelines. I hated to lose him when he left. WKU would be the perfect fit for him. WKU needs new energy and talent to boot. In both cases Sanders is better at both relative to Elson.

As a Bowling Green resident and UT grad I think Randy Sanders would be a good fit at Western. The problem Western is going to run in to is $$$. Elson was making $300K or so, Chaney makes more than that as an OC, hell Thompson makes more than that as a position coach. The $500k buyout Elson will receive is going to come from the money earned via the guranteed games that Western played over the last 3 years. That money was/is much needed for the facility upgrades as well as the simple need in building/growing a program, and now $500k of it is gone.

Wood Selig can barely offer a salary that competes with position salaries in the SEC, nevermind coordinator salaries. Also, his idea of competitive and coach's ideas are much different (i.e. thinking Darrin Horn would stick around for $400k when USCjr was offering $800k). Considering Randy hasn't garnered much attention since arriving at UK I think a doubled salary and the opportunity to be a HC would peak his interest.

Good luck 'Tops!

Chavis had the opportunities, but turned them down without making a lot of racket about it. He didn't have any desire to leave UT. Plus, he was making good money here as well.

Is there any chance Hugh Freeze form Lambuth ends up at either of these schools as HC or coordinator?? All of us Bowling Green Vols fans need to hook up on game day and make some noise somewhere! I was beginning to think i was the only Vols fan in town.

I saw Bowden in an interview with one of the Huntsville news stations, and his honesty over the situation was kind of surprising. He basically said that if another school came with an offer for a lot more money, it would be dumb not to consider it.

It's a wish list. Relax, no ones going anywhere. The staff hasn't even been together for a year yet.

i completely agree with you!!!

i use to frequent bdubs on saturdays but it seemed like i was one of a few vol fans there and everytime i went to see them play at bdubs....we LOST!!! so i think that place is cursed and am very superstitious in that aspect. but we should all have a party on gameday somewhere and geek out about our vols!
