Any other old timers remember Lester Mcclains debut 50 years ago...also John Wards first game he announced and the artificial turf (tartan turf) at Neyland....I was at that game in September.......also at Herschel Walker debut years later.....also in September
Hope Vols have another memorable game....BEaT Florida...would be great!

Three things --- 1st time to run the "T" against Ga. Tech just before half time. Beating the LSU "3" teams (one of which was the Chinese Bandits) and the kickoff against Penn St (beat them and that running back (name?) One other thing that I had just as soon forget - early 60's trying blue as a color on uniforms.

I was at the game in which Vandy beat us in Neyland. Fulmer was the coach
I was at the game in which Pat won her 900th game
I was at the Titans game in which Troy P. Leaped over the offensive line sacked Kerry Collins immediately when the ball was snapped

I always 'liked' how all of our competitors always said we were so fast because we played on the turf. Like it made us faster, somehow, even though they were running on the same ground as we were (and we were still faster at away games).

Trying blue on the uniforms??? Really?

I guess you learn something new everyday. I have never heard of this before.

Had it in Bball as late as the 80s. I love that touch of blue. Didn't know @ football either. Would like to see one in color, but maybe tech was not far enuf along?

Don’t have a pic but I’m pretty sure a touch of blue was added during Jim McDonalds only year as head coach (after Bowden Wyatt and before Doug Dickey). Got lots of negative feedback.

I thought it was gray outline to match the gray face mask.

I am no way saying that it did not happen, or calling you out. I am thankful you shared that because I simple did not know that. I considered myself pretty knowledgeable about UT football especially. When you posted that there was blue added to our uniforms at one time just came as a surprise to me. I would actually like to see a pic of it.

was in the old end zone seats on north goal line and was close up as Herschel Walker steam rolled Bates. At that point in time, who knew about that freshman?

going back a few years, was in student section the day Charlie Severance and a couple other Vols got their photo on the cover of Sports Illustrated stopping Billy Cannon on the two point try to give Vols victory over number one LSU.

I was in my 20's listing on the radio. Don't remember the announcers by they didn't seem happy. I was all orange really embarrassed me.

Sorry for not explaining. We kicked off (pooch kick) as I remember ran under the first pounce near the 30 and on into the end zone. I could be wrong but think Franko Harris was one of the backs (seem to me there was another highly thought of back also).

My favorite memory is stopping Billy Cannon on a 2 pt conversion to send #1 LSU and Heisman winner home as losers.
Rardly anyone gave the VOLs a chance to beat LSU that day. Cartright's (sp) interception set the stage for Tennessee's winning the game and the stop was the icing on the cake. One of the more surprising games I have seen the VOLs play. If we were to beat Alabama this year, the achievement would be similar to that LSU game.
