Melt down....

No to mention UL-Monroe would probably dogstomp UTM

Yeah, and Michigan would/should probably dogstomp Appy State @ the Big HOuse. Oh wait, but that didn't happen.

My original post was meant to point out that if we happen to struggle at times against UT-M, there's no need to start a panic-attack epidemic. Some people expect us to come out and just mop the field with them - I'm just saying there's no reason for a meltdown if it doesn't play out that way.

Hell, look at last year - we shellacked W KY 63-9 or something ridiculous like that. And all of a sudden a lot of fans thought we were a force to be reckoned with. And then a mediocre UCLA team came into Neyland and we got a good dose of reality.

As fans we just need to keep a level head and take the ups and downs in stride.

I'll say it again - the "master" Saban lost his first game @ ALA to LA Monroe AT HOME. That being said, I don't care if we beat UT Martin by 1 pt. A win is a win - that's all we can ask for right now. Hopefully this will be a glorified scrimmage and we'll be able to play some of the 2nd/3rd stringers. But don't be surprised if it gets a little ugly before it gets comfortable.

If anybody calls for CDD's head at any point during this season, they need to just go root for another team. It's not going to be pretty, but it really doesn't matter - cause it's FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE!

Exactly. Well said. :good!:

If this glorified scrimmage isnt under control by halftime, you'd better believe there will be a "meltdown". Nature of the messageboard.

However, dont go expecting the Vols to run it up and run them out of the stadium. I'd bet Dooley wants to see what he has and see how they react in situations. Should be a low score, but a win none-the-less.

You win. Troll of the Year, 2010.

Absolutely no way you actually think this.

How can anyone get upset about that post?

Seriously? Is it because y'all aren't out of school yet?

Dooley will think either scenario is a double-edged sword. He may think the team needs confidence; he may think they need a wake-up call to get them ready for a long, tough season. He knows the team better than I do.

I seem to recall a blow-out win last year that had everyone popping ecstasy, only to be overconfident (Kiffin and his game management) and humbled next week.

PS - How the hell am I a troll? What are you smokin', son?

A loss would be bad, really bad. I'm more concerned with how much playing time everyone gets. If we have to keep the first team out there to win the game - not good. With our lack of depth, it's important that everyone get some experience before FL and AL.

Yup, but like the sayin goes, "There aint gonna be no growth spurts between now and the start of the season." The start of the season will come prior to the Florida game.

I think we will see plenty of new people in the second quarter, regardless of score. Dooley does need to get a game day evaluation of a lot of people. I bet he does it in the first half just in case he needs the first team to put the game away in the second.

My bad, it wasn't the first game - but it still DID happen. A first-year loss to a 5-6 Sun Belt team at home. My point still stands!

There is no point.

That coach, team and game have nothing to do with Dooley the 2010 Vols or any game this year.

All that WKU game showed is that beating one of the worst teams in the NCAA doesn't mean you can beat an average NCAA team. Struggling to beat UTM means we definitely can't beat the average teams.

I hope not. But it does show that there are some serious ups and downs on the way to the top. We may have to go through some downs, just hope they arent that far down.

There will be at least 20 "Fire Dooley" threads by the end of the season.

I agree. There could be possibly more than twenty. Most of our fans need to realize that another coaching change would set the program back another 6-7 years.Dooley might not have a ton of experience but what he does have is a pretty damn good coaching staff to fall back on.And if he will let his assistants do some coaching we might sneek up on a few teams.:good!:

????????????

We looked good against WKU, but UCLA would have whipped them just as bad. Thus, destroyed the Hilltoppers doesn't mean we can beat the Bruins. However, had we struggled to beat WKU, you'd know ahead of time we are losing to UCLA.

This is in stone. Look it up. 2 times in a row bama loses to LA Monroe, and 4 losses to Notre Dame including 2 national title games.

It just doesnt work this way, if it did there would never be upsets. It is possible to overlook a team like WKU, and look like crap, but then play well against a stronger team.

No. You are underestimating how horrible they are. Anything less than a beating is a harbinger of horrible things.
