Meet the Secondary

The point of this post is to show that Fulmer is not giving Vols fans "pie in the sky" expectations:

Here are some Fulmer quotes,

prior to UNLV

"We need another week," Fulmer said after the morning workout. "Any time you're youthful at a couple of positions like we are in the secondary and at quarterback, you could use every day that's given to you. "

prior to Florida

"We're not where we need to be at this point, but, as we grow and continue to go through the season, I expect us to improve as a team. This will be a big step for us. Florida is, obviously, a very good team, very impressive on tape from their opening game."

prior to La Tech

"There's not one place on the team that doesn't have a considerable amount of work to do to be better. We're still young in many places and in many places not where we need to be from a fundamental standpoint."

prior to Auburn

"The most obvious thing is to stop giving up big plays, which we have been prone to do the last couple of games. We can't afford to make any bad plays Saturday. We need work in the secondary, too. But, really, there's not an area where we can't make significant improvement, like third-down plays on both sides of the ball."

Here's some more info on Louisian Tech....

They've beaten Alabama twice and beat Michigan State last year. They've beaten Mississippi State in the last eight years or so and took Auburn into overtime. They beat Cal and Miami and had to fight like heck a couple of years ago to get a 42-33 win.

Funny how a "high school" team beat Alabama TWICE! Maybe Alabama ought to look for "junior high school" teams to put on their schedule?

Haven't the last 2 QBs from that "high school" gone on to the NFL? (Tim Rattay, Luke McCown)
