Media Tries to Demonize Fan Base

I've been thinking for a while that we aren't as unattractive to coaches as it's been made to seem. Yes, we have a often erratic fan base, but the money, resources, facilities, ulumni support, and support from our fans when moving in the right direction far outweigh that.

The media has been painting us as a second class program, long before today. It's why they all think it's just fine that Schiano was our AD's choice and that we should all be grateful. I don't remember them ever being this way with Bama pre-Saban or even so much with Miami the last decade.

I would buckle up, I have a feeling it will get a lot worse before it gets better. People in the media are already pulling up the transcripts from the hearings, well the public portion at least. Considering this was second hand information, I am sure they will pile on the UT fanbase until some evidence comes out to prove Schianos guilt. I for one was not a fan of hiring Schiano, but taking the dude out publicly could backfire on UT. I imagine anyone we contact will be looking at how this situation unfolded and deciding if its worth it. We will have to load up this contract with a lot of guaranteed money, to bring in someone decent.

If Schiano was a Hollywood producer, a celebrity, or a politician, the media would be after him with torches and pitchforks. But, since he's an OSU darling, ESPN and the rest protect him.

Really strange how the media is handling this. They seem to be taking the opposite position of what you would think. I guess dumb, poor, southern rednecks don't deserve to be defended by anyone even against an alleged pedaphile enabler.

The media was not to kind to Schiano when his players dove at the knees of the other team in the victory formation in NFL.

Haslam and his puppets have screwed the up and under served the fans for so long and tonight ended it. Fans vote counted tonight. Our leadership can never be trusted folks. They have failed us every single time.

Next up is getting rid of that sorry AD John Currie. What a POS. Never took the pulse of the fan base because he didn't care. Just on of the Haslems yes men. You can add Fulmer and Manning to that list also. They also screwed the pooch on the one too.

And gained further God-stature with the OSU base...lol

Of course he did. I have a Buckeye friend that is saying we blew this way out of proportion. I told him if Schiano was about to be the face of their program he’d feel differently. I guess he’s alright with Urban, Schiano probably would not make him feel much differently.

The handling of the Sandusky case has been a farce. The sports media laments the terrible punishment that Penn State had to endure, while the reality is that the terms of probation were being walked back almost as soon as they were handed down. The University, as an academic institution has had to pay many millions in lawsuits, no doubt to be paid by everyone that had no part of the scandal. all to protect sacred football.ALL The crimes happened on their football facilities. There were no sanctions on the football team when Franklin became it's head coach. Last season Penn State celebrated Joe Paterno day as a middle finger to the outraged world of college football. People who wanted Franklin should rethink that position.

The last thing I want to point out is that this is not about moral taboo. This was a crime that was committed and an abhorrent one at that. So, this is not self righteous indignation. I applaud this fan base for not having the kind of zeal that makes us blind to such important distinguishments, as the Penn State fan base apparently has. As much as I want our program to achieve, I'm not willing to go rogue in order to do it.

Honestly so much ELITISM by the media. Do the fans who pay much of the bills, not get a say in who we are hiring?

They laugh it off as the most outlandish thing someone could say. I hope other fan bases would do the same.

Start a new fan uprising against media corruption, call it Vol Spring.

Welcome to the world of the rich and powerful who think if you're not a billionaire, you aren't smart enough to make a rational decision about anything.

You may want to hold out on naming Fulmer in this. I have read he helped bring it to light.

Ken Carmen on CBS Sports Radio absolutely ripped UT fans for rebelling against a Schiano hire. Kept laughing at 4-8 and saying TN fans should be thrilled to bring a winner like Schiano to a mediocre footbsll school. I wish that VolNation would blow up their phone lines.

Why do so many media people hate us? I mean jeez, I know the “ESPN hates us” line is cliché, but I’m beginning to seriously believe it.

He made a good point, however, when he said that Urban Meyer would be welcomed as coach at UT with open arms even after he defended Schiano. Not to mention all the other shady crap that’s gone on at places Meyer has coached at.

Dear national media,

The fans of the University of Tennessee will not be ridiculed by you any longer. We are the best fan base in the country point blank period. Name another fan base that shows up 90 plus thousand strong in a down pour to watch a 4 win team. Tennessee ranked 9th in 2016 in revenue from football, Mens BB and Womens BB. We packed nearly 157000 people in to Bristol Motor Speedway, with only minimal help from VT. We sat through 8 yrs of bad football and yet we were still there belting Rocky Top to the top of our lungs (with or without the woo). Not only did we show up we ranked 6th in the country in attendance even though the product on the field didn't warrant it We told the #Empty Neyland# crowd to suck it, our voice was heard. We refuse to accept a man with questionable morals and integrity, our voice was heard. Now we are some how the bad guys?

I don’t know about “with open arms”. Many UT fans hate Urban.

At the end of the day who cares what the media thinks. If we can somehow get a competent coach with integrity ( ironic that one of Currie's criteria was just that , supposedly) we will rise from this mess a stronger program , win some games, and the media will have no choice but to recognize what we're about. Our nutty fanbase showed we won't take just whatever s**t sandwich these transplants want to shovel us. Our next AD needs to be homegrown. I'm sick of this bs.
