If the Orange Bowl is nothing more than a meaningless game, why watch it? Why play it? Why should we be excited about it? I mean why should any of these NFL-ready seniors or underclassmen play? If it's so easy for these players to simply opt-out and not compete why play the games? Who wants to watch a glorified scrimmage between teams playing "the next man up"? Why would I want to spend thousands of dollars to go see a game that is meaningless? Why would I want to invest in the season knowing that it won't matter unless we make the playoffs? I don't really want to see the stars of tomorrow, I can see them next year. I want to see the stars of today.

We haven't been to a bowl game of this caliber for more than a decade, but it's meaningless.

Edit: For the love of god! I am being facetious here! Of course, I think it has meaning. This was in response to several posters claiming that the game is meaningless or nothing more than a glorified scrimmage in the Hyatt opt-out thread.

Never understand this take. By that definition under the BCS we only had one meaningful game and under this system only 3. It’s nonsense.

for me they are still exciting and fun to watch, however I guess folks may have different thoughts on “meaningful.”

I personally don’t think a post season game between KY & Iowa or even Bama and K-ST is “meaningful.”

Could be fun to play in, exciting to watch, bring in some revenue………just don’t think they’re very meaningful (only my opinion).

Nothing meaningless about it. Great opportunity for Tennessee against one of the better programs over the past 10 years. I will say I'm not going to get wrapped around the axle if we don't win. It's a great opportunity to see how Milton does as "the guy" against good competition and will tell us if we can have a decent season with him next year or do we need to look elsewhere. It could also be the coming out party for Halzle, as I expect him to be named as OC, or at least assume that role for the bowl game. A win with both these guys taking charge at those positions will tell us a lot more about what we can expect next year. And a win means we finish 11-2. That's a damn fine accomplishment in year two.

Worry about what you got and not what you don’t.

It’s not meaningless to the kids who are playing.

It’s not meaningless to coaches.

It’s not meaningless to the fans of the university of Tennessee.

The most important part of the bowl game are the 15 extra practices for the players returning next season.

I think it’s asinine for grown adults to get angry at kids for doing what is best for their families. It’s like they have never left a job to go somewhere else for more money.

Its a Vol game ... lets just all enjoy it. The players that got us there ain't gonna run. Its a brand new world. One has to wonder why we waited a couple of weeks to find out what bowl we are going to...We took that shot..Last year we got robbed at the bowl game... We shoulda learned then that its horse **** anymore....Go Vols @wonders if we are allowed to win this year?

It’s not meaningless, and it’s going to be fine 😂
Yep...it's no more meaningless than any of the other teams not in the playoffs. It's really an opportunity to finish the year strong and set the tone for next year, w/o Hooker, Tillman and Hyatt... Hopefully we put a good effort out there and our D improves some w/ a few weeks of practice...but not expecting a miracle there really.

Only 3 games left truly matter. It’s a good chance to play a non-traditional opponent. The result won’t matter and the teams may not be a true representation of the 2022 squad. It’s kinda “meh”.
