Meachem vs. Rice (continued)

Through 5 games in the NFL so far Rice has 11 catches for 119 yards and a TD while Meachem has yet to make his first catch.
Wasnt Meachem supposed to be rookie of the year?? Whats happening?

bring it on fellas

the Saints have a reemerging David Patten, Marques Colston, Terrance Copper, Devery Henderson, Lance Moore and Reggie Bush all catching balls right now, so why would they want to play Meachem, who has been hurt, while they can obviously spread the ball around without him?

So i guess healthy inactive means injured?

Saints coach Sean Payton says he's encouraged by Robert Meachem's progress, but isn't ready to activate him on game days.
Meachem underwent knee surgery prior to the season and failed to impress in exhibition games. He appears to still be a ways away from contributing.

Its halfway through their rookie season. You cant be serious. What a joke. The fact that you had to jump on this idea right now shows your apprehension that in a couple years you wont be able to win this argument. Therefore your only chance to put in a jab is before they both get a few years in the league. Good job!

Haha well if you remember all the crap yall gave me about Meachem being a MUCH better receiver and pro than Rice then you would understand. Yall are just as guilty, dont deny it.

Apparently, most NFL scouts and GMs agreed with VolNation.

Meach was drafted ahead of Rice (just as most of us said he'd be) and 2 more receivers after Meach were selected before Rice's name was called.

But can you prove Meachem is a better pro?? no. There are such things as busts.

Good question...I can't prove that Meach is the better pro...just as you can't prove that Rice is.

I think you might be getting the point. You can't prove that either guy is a better pro...it's just too early to tell.

I do watch the Saints, religiously...and I swore my love for Meachum countless times last season, so of course when the Saints took him in the draft I was excited. Meachum played in the preseason and had a few catches. He will get his time when Coach Peyton thinks he is ready. Last season Reggie Bush (who was picked to be the rookie of the year 2006) barely played, barely got the ball when he did play and look at him now. Give it time. Meachum will impress us all.

Alright time to bump this debate up. They are facing off in the NFC Championship game this weekend. Both have had their best seasons to date and have played very well. Rice has flourished with Farve at QB becoming their go to guy while Meachem is on a team with a loaded receiving corps (Sometimes being their number 1 target and sometimes being their number 5 target). Rice also put up one of the best playoff performances of all time last weekend against the Cowboys.

For the season:

Rice had 83 catches for 1312 yards and 8 TDs

Meachem had 45 catches for 722 yards and 9 TDs, but also ran it 6 times for 82 yards. He also had that amazing strip/fumble return for a TD.

There's no doubt if you look straight at numbers who has been the better reciever, but Rice is in a better situation to shine, while Meachem is part of the best offense in the league.

Thoughts?
