Robert Meachem, the Saints' first-round pick, arrived for the team's minicamp overweight and a little out of shape. He blamed the NFL draft process, and he actually has a good point. In some circles, Meachem was considered the second- or third-best receiver in the draft. Guys like him have to make a dozen or more trips to teams. Coaches take them to fine restaurants. For a month, the prospects juggle their time between flights and job interviews. Someone had to come out of this experience a little sluggish. After a lethargic minicamp, Meachem can now work on his conditioning.

Hopefully, he'll get back into shape and work hard. He has an unbelievable opportunity in New Orleans.

Now where might he inherit that poor non-nutritional eating from?:clapping:

If you read the snipit, it said it came from being "wined and dined" by the NFL teams along with the little time to train because of flights and meetings.

yea that will put pounds on anyone but once he starts practicing and training it will easily shed off in time for camp

is meachem going to start for the Saints.. Colston will be the #1 WR.. i think Meachem could be the #2 WR if he beats our Henderson and Copper.. I would love 2 see Meachem and Colston be a great 1-2 punch.. :)

Yes, I was in Slidell over the weekend and there were TWO stories on the front of the Sports page about Meachem's unpreparedness and weight gain.

I guess it was a slow news day, but I got ragged by my LSU in-laws about it.

I have no doubt that he'll shape up quickly.

I think he'll be fine, but all the top draft prospects go through what he does, and most don't end up overweight. But he'll be fine I think, as long as we aren't talking a Lendale White (USC) type situation. I think it happens more often than people realize, but it's just been awhile since a draft has been this scrutinized.

Supposedly, Lendale White's fat ass is the frontrunner for the starting RB position since T. Henry is gone.

And he didn't show up for this camp yet. Maybe it is a good thing that the Titans went for less talented, better character guys in this draft.
