Johnson and Meachem are both physical but Johnson is ahead. If what I've read is correct, Meachem is a little faster and he looks quicker to me.
Meachem was nowhere near physical this season. He was manhandled by Arkansas and Penn State. Johnson is world's stronger than Meachem, but Johnson is also the best WR to come out in like ...... 5 years.
i thought he might wait a bit longer to decide on what he would do and see what other WR's were comiing out early....this class is real deep. it will depend on his combine related to the others listed....is it for sure samarjzda is going to play football or is he still toying around with Baseball?Looks like Meachem is destined for the 2nd round...

...unless he can have a combine move to him into the top three WRs. It would be hard to think of any more than 4 WRs going in the 1st round.
But it seems to me he made a good move, all things considered. He'll be good: big, strong, fast, good hands, hard worker, good attitude. Who wouldn't want that?
I think he got a lot of mileage off the broken tackles in the Cal game. and it's been debated since then whether it was meach breaking the tackles or cal tackling poorly....but against Arkansas for sure, they were definitely more physical than him.Meachem was nowhere near physical this season. He was manhandled by Arkansas and Penn State. Johnson is world's stronger than Meachem, but Johnson is also the best WR to come out in like ...... 5 years.
He's not as good as Calvin Johnson.
Not physical I guess you didnt see the Cal game or any of the other 8 games. He did get shut down in the Bowl and Arky games. What part of the Stat numbers suggest that Calvin was better than meachem or any other good WR? He had 2 more TD than Meach. Meach had more yards, higher average, and best long play. Yeah Calvin was good, but He didnt impress me this year enough to warrant being the best WR to come out in 5 yrs. He wasn't double team as much as I would have expected as the season went on. I will give you the fact that Reggie Ball is a poor excuse for a QB, which would keep calvins numbers down. Remember Ainge went down for more or less 2 1/2 games. imagine Meachems numbers if this didnt happen.
name rec yds ypr long td
Meachem 67 1265 18.9 84 11
Johnson 67 1016 15.2 66 13
A) As much of a stats guy as I am, draft stock relies more on eyes than stats.
B) You've seen the UT games, but you haven't WATCHED. Meachem breaking tackles is NOT WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. When Meachem was pressed at the line of scrimmage, he was not effective. Period. Once Arkansas shut him down, the only other team with comparable defensive talent to play Tennessee was Penn State. What did they do? They pressed him, and he was rarely effective.
C) Calvin Johnson had the great task of catching balls from the worst 4 year starting QB in the history of football. Watch Johnson play before you really get into this with me. He fought off hard press coverage almost every game. He also has more upper body strength than Meachem, as you can tell by just comparing the two players' bodies.
D) Meachem is great and I think as he matures and gets some great NFL coaching, will have a great career. He's no scrub, he's very very good. Don't think I'm dissing the guy. Johnson is just a beast.
