Yes, he is cashing in and providing for his family.
Yes, his draft stock is a guaranteed 1st day pick.
Yes, he COULD get injured in his last year at college.

BUT...

This WR class is soooo deep.

With a good combine, he could be the 3rd WR taken.

However, this has been his only great year in college. He does not have a track record. If he has a bad combine, his stock could drop considerably.

With a bad combine, he will be drafted behind Calvin, Jarrett, Ginn, Sid Rice, Samardja (if he plays football), and some others.

Even if he did get hurt (barring a career ending injury), he could run a good combine and still be a 1st day pick (see J-Allen).

I know he has a family to consider, but as strictly a business decision, I don't know if leaving was best.

All I know is that I will never forget how dejected he looked on the field after the fumble return in the bowl game. I hate the fact that he is going out on a loss like that.

I hated it worse for Casey Clausen and Mark Jones in the Peach Bowl. It seemed like they were the only two guys that showed up to play. They finished out their careers with an awful loss.

i think his 40 time in the combine will determine his draft status like it did for stalworth a vew years ago. He's needs a great 40 time to go 1st or 2nd rd in the class this yr IMO.

He's got two kids and he's been at school for 4 years. Its his time. He saw what next year will be like, getting double and triple teamed every single game.

I heard he has decided to not sign an agent so he can keep his option to come back open(in case alot of underclassmen leave or his stock drops).

I don't know how this declaration thing works. Just wondering can a player declare to go to the draft, but also declare to come back if he doesn't get drafted before some point?

Saw where Rice is going early also. That doesn't help but what ever he gets it is more than he has now and just how much money do you need. He may never make up the difference but he will make a lot of money.

I think Donte Stallworth considered coming back for his senior year after he had already declared. When he heard he would have to sit out for 2 or 3 games, he decided to remain in the draft.

I think they have until Jan 19 to renig unless they've already hired an agent.

like it was said earlier in the thread, next year he would have been doubled nearly every play, every game and his numbers would plummet. I have never begrudged a player less for leaving early. he has got to go now.

Plummet might be too strong of a word.

Defenders will key on him and he will probably be shadowed by 2 people.

Nevertheless, Meach would have a better ground game with Coker and a more experienced Ainge. UT returns Cottam and brings in great potential in O'Neal and Vinson.

Yes, his numbers would go down. Not as drastically as some people think.

With Rice declaring now this class just got deeper. One more year could have really helped him.

Maybe the Titans will take him at 19.

I think he'll regret it longterm. Initially I think Meachem will be happy...he'll get drafted 5th round by someone like the Cardinals/Rams/Bills. Get dominated on the line of scrimmage by a tough corner or 2 in the NFL, lose his confidence and not amout to a hill of beans.

One good year and good combine numbers is more than enough to get into the first round. Troy Williamson did the same thing a couple of years ago and he was a Top 10 pick. The problem is all the other receivers coming out this year. With the numbers that Meach will put up at the combine, he won't fall past the early 2nd round.

he's to talented to not amount to anything. he will be fine.

I don't blam him for going pro. I wish him the best in the future be it NFL or whatever.

I myself believe he should have stayed another year. The number of great players coming out early seems greater this year than in the past. Im sure Trooper would have the other Wr ready to help take some of the pressure off of Meach next year.

But like I said I wish him well in the future.

Looks like Meachem is destined for the 2nd round...

Jarret
Johnson
Smardjiza
Rice
Baker
Bowe
et al.

...unless he can have a combine move to him into the top three WRs. It would be hard to think of any more than 4 WRs going in the 1st round.

But it seems to me he made a good move, all things considered. He'll be good: big, strong, fast, good hands, hard worker, good attitude. Who wouldn't want that?

I have a hard time seeing Meachem taken after Baker and Bowe. He'll be in line with Rice and Samamammama.
