McNeil was "comfortable just showing up for the games"

Just shows that our suspicions were correct in that the players were not pushed at all in practice or in the workouts.

Yeah...how many AA O-linemen do you know that go undrafted?

I know it's happened rarely at other positions...but I'm not aware of any OL's pulling that feat

I thought Munoz decided he didn't want to play football at the next level? I am quite sure he would have been a late round pick at best and would have had to battle to secure a spot with a team.

Either way it does back up others assertions he was lazy in any case. He had the frame but lacked the heart.

Munoz only "decided" not to try the NFL after he went undrafted. The decision was made for him.

Yep, he did have offers to tryout for teams after the draft but when he went undrafted he decided to quit instead. His draft stock was not affected by the possibility of him quitting.

I'll not forget leaving the Vols-ND game in South Bend. Everyone had dressed up like they always did when they left the dressing room, but Toeina was there in a windsuit, pretty much giving an F U to the coaches and no one did a thing about it.

I think I do remember reading about that now that you mention it. A guy with his frame and pedigree has all the tools you would need to play at the next level.....except heart.

In his defense, Munoz's knees were shot by the time the Draft rolled around. I'm not sure he could have passed an NFL physical.

McNeil's shoulders didn't bother him when he threw the flower pot thru his girlfriend's window last year! Wonder if he was one of the UT players Brandon Spikes said quit trying during the Florida game last year. Anyway, good to see he's got his stuff together now.
Wasn't McNeal the one caught untying shoe laces???

Remember, even in Coach Fulmer's system Munoz was a freshmen all american, started all 4 years at UT, was co-captain his junior and senior year, and was a consensus all american his senior year. I just cannot imagine how much more Kiffin's staff could've gotten out of him.

Him starting all 4 years says about as much about his ability and work ethic as it does if Fulmer were still coach today and McNeal would have been guaranteed the starting job this season without much of any effort...

I think that was the whole point of the article.

I know not many of us are fans of David cutcliffe. He said it when he came back, that phillip didn't know how to run a practice. This just reconfirms what most of us already knew.

I swear, in some respects I'm even more pissed off at the last regime now than I was last November, if possible. I had felt like they were on cruise control, but we keep getting more clarity on the extent to which the apathy had set in.

I agree Jack. I always thought that it couldn't be as bad as I was thinking it was but apparently it was worse.

It's hard to imagine that Fulmer achieved the success that he did with all that is coming out now.

I know that discipline wasn't great without Cut but was he the only reason why our program reached the heights it did or was there more discipline brought by other assistants on staff in the 90's?

It's disturbing to hear the level of laziness towards the end. No wonder our players were accused of quitting and it was brushed off by the staff.

Where there's smoke, there's usually fire. I wish I could say it has made the fan base wiser, but I know that's not true.

Yup. I definitely didn't want Cut in here as HC, but there's no denying that he made us a better program while he was here.

What??? I believe UT with Cut and UT without him was night and day different.

But glad McNeill is turning it around. They said Chris Scott is also remaking his body into a better shape than they thought he could do, or something like that.

“He wasn’t playing at the highest level he could play at because he had become comfortable that he was the guy and he could just show up on game day,”

I think this was one of the biggest problems with the entire team over the last 8 to 10 years or so.

McNeil, who said his lower body is twice as strong as it was before, said the transition from resentment to appreciation was gradual.

Hope this is the case with the entire O-line. Might help with the run blocking.

McNeil's gonna make himself the first center taken in the next draft.
