You guys need to read up on some of the all time greats and coaches who played this game. When it comes to guts, passion and heart, they put today's guys to shame.

The only thing this new generation hasnis superior training equipment and methods.

But most of them don't have an ounce of toughness or sincerity that the players of the past did.

If you are a college student or just graduated please don't even bother to reply because you are part of the same soft generation and dont have a clue as to what I'm saying.

College football and the NFL has essentially become flag football compared to what it used to be. And the majority of the players are strictly only playing for the chance of money and an easy ride. It wasn't always like that I.promise.

And I love the effort and work that Butch has put in recruiting at UT and with the running game and special teams...but one thing that annoys me is his over the top coach speak and gimmicky sayings. A little brutal honesty is always refreshing.

Great news for Vol fans that McNeil was practicing yesterday, even with a green jersey. We could certainly use him this weekend but his long term health has to be Butch's top priority.

So in other words he's fine and its just precautions.... Geez football has gone soft.

He needs to be playing in the Oklahoma game.

Do you think guys like Diug Atkins and Dick Butkus of the old days would be sitting out right now.

These kids are freakin soft....I want guys willing to fight to the death to win.

Shut up, dude. Did it ever occur to you that it might not be his decision to sit out the Oklahoma game?

The guy was told that he might have a major neck injury, that could lead to a LIFETIME of health issues, but still went and got a second opinion because he wants to play. I would say that is the exact opposite of being soft.

On a side note, most of the guys that played back before the game was "soft" have all kinds of health issues and many have trouble just walking. In the future I would suggest you think before speaking.

Dude, you could not be more off base.

Coming from a career where physical courage and toughness, working through exhaustion and pain, guts, passion and heart are highly valued, I feel like I'm in a relatively good position to judge today's players.

And they rock.

You don't remember Jacob Gillam? Played most of the season with a torn ACL, and his last game with a broken hand on top of that? He's only been gone from the program one season, shame on you for forgetting him already.

These kids today, they have huge hearts, and plenty of guts. I'd put them right up there beside Butkus and Czonka, Lambert and Greene.

Perhaps you're the weak one, and it keeps you from seeing the strength in others. Something to ponder, anyway.

They may not be able to function like normal human beings, but at least they can't be accused of being "soft" or whatever.

You missed all the posts that got deleted last night. This poster complains about getting bashed but the things he posts pretty much just puts a "kick me" sign on his back.

You might want to do some reading yourself and get up to date on the great percentage of players from that era having a ton of brain, joint, and other health issues. The direction that pro and college football are going now is a direct result of that data.

Sorry I didn't have to walk 10 miles to school barefoot, in the snow, and uphill both ways.

I'm a *****.
