Mcelwain throwing some shade at Tennessee

Said every year, since I can remember. Yet once again, so many are so convinced it can't and won't happen.

Our whole program was a train wreck from 2008-2013.

Last year was the 1st season since probably 2006 that I expected to beat Florida, and if you were on this forum, you would have noticed that it was indeed a train wreck after the game.

Anyone who says we "can't" lose to Florida, as in, it's not possible, is either using false bravado or is an idiot. If we do lose, life will go on, but I think it's fair to call it a must win this season. Again, Butch knows that. He won't say that, but he knows it.

Florida produces as much HS talent as oranges. UF should have a competitive program every year. Defeating them in any given year should be a big deal.

Does anyone have evidence of McElwain spewing crass smack while at CSU? Earlier in his career? Is this an established trait, or a symptom of his assimilation into a Gator state of mind?

Possibly, or, it could be that UF has won 11 in a row, won the SEC east last year, 10 games, have a great coaching staff and have some dang good players returning, and are just tired of yet another year of the preseason mantra saying they can't possibly beat UT in a million years.

Maybe Florida has the unmitigated gall to actually think they can beat UT? Can you blame them?

You do know Florida has been favored to beat Tennessee 8 of the last 10 years? Florida has also been picked to finish higher than Tennessee in the division 9 of the last 10 years?

This is really the first year people are saying Florida can't beat Tennessee. Each of the last 2 seasons, Tennnessee has only been a 1 point favorite according to Vegas. They led both games going into the 4th quarter only to lose by 1 point.

So please drop this mythology that Tennessee is favored to beat Florida every year. Since 2006, the opposite has actually been true. Florida has been favored to beat Tennessee. Usually by alot.

Fans have a right to be delusional. But for the first time in ages, Vegas agrees with Tennessee fans.

Right now, Tennessee is a 12 point favorite over Florida. I don't think Tennessee has been this prohibitive a favorite over Florida since Spurrier's first few years coaching in Gainesville.

So maybe now the belief by Vols fans that there is no way Florida beats them actually has some substantive evidence supporting it.

when I see people slamming other teams, it really means they are worried, we are so in the heads of the Florida team, it is all they think about..........good for us. They are coming to Neyland, and they barely escaped last year (heart breaker). UT has the stable, Florida knows it, and just about every sports agency knows it..........we certainly can't have a break down in coverage in 2016, which I don't think they will with Shoop. It would not surprise me if UT walks out with a 3+ touchdown win over the gators.

Go Vols!!

florida won at home last year on a miracle play. This year, UT is better, deeper, more experienced, and has stars all over their offense, playing at home, in front of 100,000 wild, loud, drunken fans, ready to create mayhem. This game will be won early with a couple of big plays -- UT rolls---33-13!

Two points; other than Dobbs and possibly Hurd, who are the other "stars" on offense? Hurd is solid, not spectacular. Not a gamebreaker.

Secondly, 100,000 wild obnoxious drunken fans every year in Knoxville. You do realize that UT is 4-11 at home v Florida in the last 30 years, with one of those wins over Zook.

Ok, then act like you've beaten us 11 years in a row. We shouldn't even be an afterthought to you guys, yet Tabor and CJM keep bringing UT up. It's not our guys who are instigating this, it's your coach. He's doing so with a purpose.

You lost any semblance of an appearance of objectivity.

Hiring Spurrier as ambassador is bad for McElwains power. More will want to quizSpurrier than him both pre and post games. Plus Spurrier poking his nose in practices, etc.

Lost all credibility with that dig.

So I guess your defense got ran all over by an average back last year. Remember the names Alvin Kamara and Preston Williams as well. And we are actually 5-11. I represented UT and drilled some guy representing Florida before the game during a tailgate for messing around with our tent during the '96 game.

When asked if he thought egos would get in the way,, his response was "Egos will get you fired."

I didn't hear the context, but he was either saying they were both professionals, or he was telling Spurrier through the media that his ego would get him fired. lol

Before the Gators get all fired up for the Vols they better take care of business with the Mildcats. They barely won last year. In fact one could say Florida won at least 3 games on pure good fortune. Those things have a way of returning to the mean. If things go the other way this year it could be 7-5 time for the Swamp Donkeys.

Well, its quite clear where the Florida players get their lack of class! Do you thing Butch would make the statement that apparently they have all the best players in the league??? Don't think so!

Oh, you want to discuss class. The fan boy in the other thread said you were better at every position. Maybe Jim just believed this board. I thought this might be your year , but it won't
The year you win will be the year you foresee a narrow win. As long as you guys predict a blowout, we are safe.

Who's the "you" in your scientific scenario? Plenty of fans on this board won't predict a WIN...much less a blowout. How does that affect your algorithm? :)

Or he just doesn't care what people think? That's just who he is. Michael Strahan is a millionaire, yet his teeth are jacked up and he refuses to get them fixed. Also I don't think this is a shot at your program. More of a shot towards the media for over hyping the Vols. Which isn't the Vols fault. With that said, can't wait for the game, should be a classic. Go gators

Umm... Welcome, sort of, I guess...

I do have to say that for every over-hyped-pro-Vol media reference out there, there are plenty more dogging UT.

My question about the teeth is: how many packs a day does it take to get them that color? :eek:hmy: I don't care that much about their (excessive) size and (ridiculous) protrusion. Just dang, that color...

Well, he does speak the truth. We do have the best players at every position. I guess we heard it straight from the horse's mouth!

Man, I hope we run through the SEC this year. I am so sick of everyone disrespecting us. Why is everyone so openly disrespectful towards us? I don't want to hear fear. It's been going on for years. It's one thing for players to trash talk, but it's another when coaches do it
