McElwain, the Gator Dooley equivalent?

Dooley did have some leads. Halftime was where he tanked. I remember saying, boy... all these other teams adjust at half to us. We don't adjust and it got worse.

I'm appreciating Butch more and more. Glad our guys didn't mouth off (much..)

No doubt Butch is an upgrade from Dooley

He was pretty impressive at Colorado State and even winning the east last year. He's a good coach. BUTCH is just building something BETTER.

FTR, Mac is nowhere even close to one of the worst college football coaches of all time. Donkey teeth is an azz, but dude can coach.

Agree. He's a great X-O's coach that will only get better as he gets more exposure to the entire game. He doesn't seem to be one that appears loyal to a coach who's not on top of his game, so I expect UF to get better and better, as should we. The East is coming back.

Agreed. Mac needs a few years...maybe 7 to install his system and recruit his players. He's so much better than Dooley. UF has a real solid coach in Mac. They should be encouraged to stick with him for as long as possible. And I'm totally not saying anything of this because I want them to suck for 20 years.
You're one of a kind Hoss.

Florida just hired their new AD away from Miss State. Could Mullen be next? Worth watching.

This is what happens when you hire a coach from Colorado St. For him to be an offensive genius, his offenses at Florida have thoroughly underperformed. They need to hurry up and sign him to an extension.

McElwain will do good things there, but he totally lost his team leading up to this game. No coach in his right mind lets players talk the trash they did and simply tells them, you better back it up. The inmates should never run the asylum, especially in big time college football. Came back to bite em Saturday, and it was beautiful to watch.
Never forget the Dooley years.

Never Forget

Dooley never won the East.

And honestly, in his tenure he had coaches in place to do serious damage in the east. Thats how terrible of a coach he was. If you look around CFB landscape you can see several of his former coaches at winning programs. Sunseri is not included in this of course.

With all due respect... I think UF in Atlanta last year was a fluke. Yes, they beat us, so we must shut up about it.

Amazing how, once they got past us, their QB got tossed for juicing... They beat Georgia and were unimpressive down the stretch.

Preseason, SEC network showed the UGA - Florida game. I watched it and all I could think of was "no wonder Richt got fired". UGA sucked that game.

What a difference one play makes. If we could have stopped them on 4th down last year, it would have meant Atlanta - maybe us playing Michigan and the Gators playing Northwestern in the bowls. Who knows.

Bottom line, I saw a team with a bunch of trash talking players pretty much quit and a coach that allowed it to happen. Not a good formula for future success.

I'm wondering how long he lasts.

He seems to not have a grasp on keeping his players disciplined. He enabled his players to mouth off in the preseason. Teez being on Finebaum had to be approved by him. Wasn't Tabor kicked out of practice for a few days for fighting a teammate at practice? I wonder if some of the Teez's teammates pulled him aside after the #WGWTFA that was put on them and let him know how embarrassing that was.

If a coach loses the locker room, he's in trouble. That's where I call in the Dooley comparison. I remember Bray and company quitting at Kentucky - about the only time I've ever seen a Tennessee team quit.

The Florida team has talent. I feel like they quit by the end of the third quarter. It's one thing to have talent. It's another to keep them all on the same page and playing as a TEAM.

I'm thinking Florida may be heading into the wilderness for a few years. It'll be interesting to watch.

I mentioned this in another thread but UF has a team this year that has more punks on it even for a UF team that often has more than all other programs normally do. They've been blessed in this it seems and with the coaching culture McElwain seems to be using, it is a recipe for significant issues. Couldn't happen to a better bunch, keep up the good work down there Beelzebub!

If we had a decent defense he would have won one games. We had a good amount of talent on the offensive side and scored plenty of points.

Not only is he a better coach than Derek Dooley.. He is probably better than Butch Jones as well. Particularly X's and O's wise. What he did last year with a very marginal Florida team was impressive. His recruiting has been suspect by Florida standards though Jim McElwain is a class act and good football coach. Don't fool yourselves.

You miss last year's Ole Miss @ Florida game?

he had a decent defense in his first couple of seasons. We had Lsu on the ropes, lost to UNC in a fluke, and of course the Vandy loss. I think if he could've recruited a rb and some db's while he was here we'd still be biching about him. Thank goodness he is who he is.

I would say X's and O's only. Overall Butch has had to do much more than CJM has had to do in his short time in the swamp. Muschamp recruited well, pissed away several good/great qb's, and basically left CJM flush everywhere except the OL and Qb. Butch basically had to change everything top to bottom. Talent, mindset, and all the while dealing with a dysfunctional student athlete support system. Few recall how close we were to probation for our grades.
