McElwain says Luke Del Rio practiced yesterday

Think about this for a minute...If Florida wins Saturday and goes on to win the east it will be with one QB who was a scrub at Purdue, yes crappy Purdue and transferred to Florida and another QB who was a walk-on at Bama, didn't see the field at Oregon St and transferred to Florida. I understand they have a great defense but that alone will show us how bad thevEast is.

Another thing, it will also show me that we need a legit QB coach, not some damn grad assistant and Pre-historic OC

He will risk further injury. Barnett will clean up either QB. If DelRio wants to play more this season this is a game to rest. I don't care who plays. Our defence will be ready.

I tell you that Gator coach sounds scared. Why bring up that your better quarterback is practicing but to try and throw people off. Oh he is very scared.:):dance2::dance::good!::clapping:

On the SEC conference call a short time ago, Mcelwain was all over the place. Says Del Rio practiced and is traveling and dressing with the team to Knoxville. Said both Freshmen got reps with the first team, didn't mention Appleby at all (in terms of how he practiced). So who knows who he'll trot out at QB?

Also, he said Callaway "ran around at practice and he'll try to give it a go Saturday," also said he "wants to see how he practices today (Wednesday)."

At this point, UT is better suited just assuming everyone is playing, including Del Rio.

Shouldn't matter should it? If UT is the real deal, Del Rio playing shouldn't change the outcome. If UT is legit championship material and better than UF, they'll take care of business.

I think Florida and its staff have picked up on something and they're trying to exploit it; Tennessee plays tight in big games, or tight in general. I think this is what Mac is possibly trying to tap in to with the pre-game histrionics; Del Rio injury status confusion, Callaway injury status confusion, DB's talking smack, ducks pulling trucks, etc.

Florida is an extremely loose team, especially on defense. They may be trying to get Butch Jones to coach uptight and overly-prepared, which will then make the players play uptight with too much swirling around in their heads.

It's only my theory, Mac has coached 17 games for Florida and while he's always been evasive regarding injuries, I've never seen his team this loose-goosey and openly talkative before a game.

He is trying to get in our heads and make us second guess our preparation. Working? I think preparing for both guys is about the same. One is just better than the other.

You always prepare for plays not the players if that makes any sense. Depending on who starts they will run plays depending on the player but you practice against their play package not the particular player unless its a megastar.

Unless UF has a dual-threat option QB sitting in the wings I fail to see how who starts at QB makes much of a difference to how we'd prepare.

I wonder if DC's really have to change a whole lot when they're "preparing" for a certain situation?

Pretty sure they have about 4-6 defensive formations and formation 1 covers scenarios A,B,C.
formation 2 covers D,E,F.. etc...

My point is.. UT is probably not doing anything drastically different than what they normally do.. don't you think?

In a close game, the winning factor may not be anything drastic.

I'm not that sure how much different the two players are. But based on what UF fans seem to think.... I would guess UF being MUCH more run oriented with the back up than Del Rio. LDR is also better prepared to pick up a blitz.

From a gameplanning standpoint, hoping to win with the run game vs the passing game can also change how you defend the opponent.

You have to account for the differences even if they don't seem that significant. Coaching to defend two different QB's necessarily splits the time that could be used to prepare for just one.

Then... without LDR... UT has to think about the wildcard of Appleby being pulled in favor of one of the other back ups.

Let him play, the success of this game rides on the shoulders of the OL & DL. Doesn't matter who Florida's QB is.

I stared at this for at least 5 minutes in the middle of lecture.

I invented that.

True story.

Gator posters, what do you think the Florida fan base perception of CJM if he loses this game?

it doesn't change a whole lot. We are the underdogs and are playing with house money. We shouldn't even be in discussion of Atlanta(and yes it's still early). The game means a whole lot more to Tennessee than it does to Florida. Butch isn't going to get fired if he loses this game but it could start a downward spiral. With coach Mac it's another rivalry game. Hope that answers your question.

"He came out to practice the other day and signaled and was there kind of in all the gameplan things. So that room, and you hear me talk about that, the room itself is the same. In other words, those four guys are in there going through the install. He's preparing himself just like he's the starter. That really is what you expect from that position, and the guys around him, the team, they know he's there. And we'll take him on the trip for part of that reason. We travel four quarterbacks, and he'll be a guy."

I'm betting this is the year we make the back up look like a back up after we take the starter out.
