Green's got game. The two ND point guards -- Gilbert and Nixon -- look good. And Chrystyn Williams looks as good as her hype.

What I'm interested to see is who will be the standout in this game. Christyn Williams has collected just about every NPOY award but is she really the best overall player in the class? Seems like a lot of other players has just as much if not more potential so it remains to be seen who is really better.
Well now you know she's hands down the best, and that Ododa kid is no slouch either.

I agree! She is outstanding! I didn't think she would dominate the competition like that. Iza Nicolletti couldn't contain her at all. Ododa is very skilled. Needs to add more pounds but has a ton of upside. Queen Egbo looks like a winner for Baylor. Blocks, Rebounds, Short Jumpers, Athleticism! Baylor will be stacked at 4/5 wonder how it all meshes.

I liked what I saw from Zay Green and Masengill. Both athletic and tall. Should be good for the Lady Vols. I also like what I saw from Destanni Henderson. She's very quick and deceptive and can shoot the 3 ball. She'll fit in nicely next year alongside Harris at the point.

Of the Lady Vol recruits, I was most impressed with Collins. She played with her back to the basket on one play then after that she shot a 3. She’s definitely a stretch 4. She rebounded and I loved the way she was barking orders to the other players. She’s a natural leader on the floor and I’m happy to have her.

Texas is lucky to have 6’7” Sedona Prince. She’s extremely mobile and quick for a post her size. I think she’s special.

Rich get richer

Yep. So long as the dynamics encourage the best to go to Connecticut, it'll stay that way. Just not the same pressures and values as the men's sport. And, I mean, Tennessee benefited from that (and still does to a lesser extent), but so long as UConn is "the team" it's never going to change.

my shallow observation of the game kept crystalizing over Zay's hairdo and whether it was going to topple over. lol

A lot of her barking was because she was open to shoot the three in the corner...All by herself! The problem she forgot about was this game: Was a AA. Game with everyone showing what they could do on offense and throwing the ball to someone in the corner of the court was not on their list!!! I did like her hustle and aggressive play. She needs some work on her footwork and I expect her to use all of her five fouls. JMO

Did you guys hear Christyn in the interview piece say that originally she wanted to be the one to take down UConn. But then she fell in love with the UConn program.

What I heard was that Geno was genius in recruiting and played to her ego. Told her that she would become "legendary" at UCONN and other schools would be a waste of time.

Christyn Williams did a lot of barking for the ball, too. Difference was, CW made her shots. (She was wide open on all her 3's.)

They had three this year: Jackson, Nared and Dunbar.

Just didn't know how to utilize them best....
You can play

High-low, outside-in,,
or ,,,,
Low-high, inside-out .

Pound it in to open the outside shot, or, shoot the outside to stretch the defense off of the post. Either way can work but you have to be proficient at both.

I do think without the foot injury that Dunbar could've developed into a solid player. I wanted her to be great, but she just wasn't. Her defense really held her back. And her shooting was not good enough to make up for it. She shot 32% from 3 for her career. She shot 50% free throws. She fouled and turned it over nearly as much as she rebounded and assisted.

I did wonder why she didn't play more in early season games, but we often played speedy, athletic teams.

We've debated this to death in other threads, but I am very glad KD was a LV. I just think she wasn't an unused asset but more one that was hampered by injury.

Sedona Prince will be a good one, We don`t have anyone one in the post to deal with the top 10-15 team post players none. As long as Holly is this will be a problem. ShakiraAustin 6-5 on her way to Maryland has big upside and is very skilled to. As for Collins she will need a better coach. I look back at Nicky Anosike when she arrived she was raw and talented and by her senior year she had a all around game due to coaching. I`m not saying Collins can`t get there. I just don`t think so under Holly.

Yes, I've no doubt that's one of the ways they push people. UConn's allure is helped by the ESPN support, too. Go look at the front page of the WCBB section, and it feels like 40-50% of their content is focused on Connecticut. Special stories on Connecticut. Focus on their program's success and prominence. Focus on their Hall of Fame coach. The sport doesn't garner enough attention to bring parity to its coverage, but it *is* just big enough for some recognition, a big chunk of which is Connecticut's. Now, that used to mean Tennessee and Connecticut, but now it's just Connecticut. Winning would fix that, sure -- if someone beat UConn regularly it would break their hold on the media -- but first you have to overcome an entrenched, supported, well-oiled machine that's the only big fish in a still small pond. When that big fish can routinely hand pick the best of a very limited talent pool ... well ... there you go. It's still on the coaching and athletic program to develop those players, but as Pat's father told her, you have to have the horses. Having the horses is a large part of the challenge. For Connecticut, it's a solved equation so long as Auriemma is in charge.

This group as a whole looked rather unimpressive IMO, aside from Williams who was ridiculously better than everyone else. The LV recruits all looked awful on their perimeter shots, so if this game is any indication they will fit right in....

Geno fishes in the same pond we do.
Both of us catch top 10 fish...,His learn to swim in a school.

Its not that hard folks.
Winning is easy.
It's losing that's tough.

Horses can be equal in size, strength, stamina and even heart...It is the brain that separates the genres...(Other than the obvious). Horses don't have levels of intelligence...Ergo, no egos, no tudes, no questions...They just know how to be a horse..

What they need is the right horse trainer.

I disagree. Sedona Prince looked pretty good and Madi Williams who signed with Oklahoma brought the intensity. I thought Green and Massengill has speed and should be good defenders. Green did miss her 3 pt shots but wasn't afraid to take them. I thought Henderson should have been more aggressive. She had a quiet 11 point game and the only consistent 3 point shooter for the east squad. I think if she came out in an attack mindset she could've easily matched Williams scoring output. Overall I think the Lady Vols got a good class I Green, Massengill and Collins.

You are a hard one to impress Dart Vol lol, but if you want to gauge your recruits better you will have another opportunity when they play in the JBC next week.
