McClendon Benches 645 pounds

I remember he almost went to my high school before going to Baylor. He benched 200 pounds in the 8th grade. It was ridiculous

that's good and all, but the question is can he open holes for the RB's. 9th in rushing in the SEC is not good at all. I know it's not all his fault but it's time to start being a dominate running team again. We need more that 26 yards rushing against the gators. last 2 years we've combined for 26 yards rushing against them.

I think the most interesting thing about that article was the part about Eric Berry adding 10-15 lbs. of lean muscle.

Well I hope we have an OC (and I think we do now) that won't abandon the run for his project QB to show off his growth.

I think Arian is going to be used more not just in the run as well... and probably will average more than 20 carries/game.

That would mean hes up to 205-210 pounds. Thats a pretty big guy at 5'11. Hope it doesn't slow him down any.

Berry blitzing from the corner could really cause some problems. 210 lbs coming at you at full speed is going to rattle some QB's. i know he had some great plays last blitzing, i think he'll only get better. i just hope Chief uses him effectively.

i agree utvol, i'd like to see crompton allow the play to develope instead of throwing it away after 2 seconds. he should be able to scramble out of the pocket better and run for 3-4 yards.

I really doubt adding that lean muscle slowed him down any. If anything I'd say it gave him more lateral quickness and agility.

Another article on the same topic from TFP and Wes Rucker. There is some more stuff in this one about the rest of the squad..

LINK to TFP

I had pretty much decided that the McClendon weight was a myth... based on earlier comments here at the Nation. Looks true though...

OWH....when do 'the notes' make their comeback to the mani board?

Man...it's too easy to think all is great during the off-season, isn't it? I can't wait for fall practice to start so that I can begin my descent back to reality....

Thats unbelieveable...absolutely amazing!!!

Isn't Vlad Richard really strong as well...like over 500 pounds in the bench press? I remember hearing (and seeing) how much more of a push we got when those two were at guard...no wonder....

As far as Berry is concerned...if it truly is lean muscle then that amount won't do anything but help his explosiveness....

And can you imagine how bad he is going to light people up this year...he was drilling people last year at 190...at 205 he might just take some heads off!!!

Personally...I hope the first head that goes rolling across the 50 yard line is from a UF receiver...preferably Harvin

The audio in OWH's link says Vlad got 600 too.

OWH....when do 'the notes' make their comeback to the mani board?

Pretty much when it loooks like the scribes have settled in for the new season. Likely when veterans get down to some hittin'..

I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out of next week's media days though..

i'm looking foward to see what drama Finebaum is trying to stir up next week. he's the Geraldo of SEC football radio.

That's amazing. I wouldn't even want to be one of his spotters at that high of a weight.

Berry at 205 is a scary thought. I wouldn't want to be the guy thats responsible for picking him up on the blitz.

Senior Demonte Bolden from Tyner Academy set a new defensive line mark with his 565-pound bench press, while sophomore tight end Luke Stocker (565) and walk-on sophomore linebacker Nick Reveiz (640) set new squat marks at their positions. Sophomore All-American kicker Daniel Lincoln breezed past the program’s records with his 370-pound bench press, 405-pound squat and 275-pound power clean.
“We’ve got the buffest kicker in America, no doubt,” sophomore defensive end Chris Walker said through fits of laughter.
This team is working its ass off in the weight room. Setting all kinds of records.

As good as A. Parker is...with two guys benching that much it kind of makes you want them in their full time...

Does anyone think this kind of performance from McClendon and Richard might result in Parker going to center full time? If so, what happens to McNeil?

Not going to happen. Parker might have gotten Third team AA honors last year but McNeil is the better player. It will be the same rotation as last year. Parker 2/3s of the PT and Vlad gets the other 1/3 and comes in in short yardage situations.
