ABC News: McCain Pastor: Islam Is a 'Conspiracy of Spiritual Evil'

Despite his call for the U.S. to win the "hearts and minds of the Islamic world," Sen. John McCain recruited the support of an evangelical minister who describes Islam as "anti-Christ" and Mohammed as "the mouthpiece of a conspiracy of spiritual evil."

Listen to excerpts from Rev. Rod Parsley's "Silent No More" sermon.

Late Thursday McCain announced he was rejecting Pastor Rod Parsley's endorsement he had once so eagerly sought.
McCain sought the support of Pastor Parsley of the World Harvest Church of Columbus, Ohio at a critical time in his campaign in February, when former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee was continuing to draw substantial support from the Christian right.
At a campaign appearance in Cincinnati, McCain introduced Parsley as "one of the truly great leaders in America, a moral compass, a spiritual guide."
Campaign aides positioned Parsley right behind McCain for photographers, apparently unconcerned about Parsley's well-established denunciations of the Islamic faith in a book "Silent No More" and on DVDs of sermons about Islam.
"Islam is an anti-Christ religion that intends through violence to conquer the world," Parsley says on the DVDs reviewed by ABC News.

Parsley's views and his connection to the McCain campaign are now beginning to show up on Arab Web sites and newspapers.
Al Moheet, a regional Arabic Web site operating in Egypt, carries the story with a picture of McCain and the headline: "McCain's Spiritual Adviser Calls for the Destruction of Islam."
"If there is a McCain presidency, he will start with a serious handicap in the Arab world," said former CIA intelligence officer John Kiriakou. "And the handicap is that it is already assumed in Muslim countries that they will not get a fair shake from a McCain administration," said Kiriakou.
In a statement to ABC News about Parsley's comments, McCain's campaign said the senator "obviously strongly rejects such statements." The campaign did not answer the question of whether it was aware of Parsley's widely publicized statements prior to seeking his endorsement in February.

Parsley's base camp is in Columbus, Ohio, where I am at, and this guy is nothing more than an ego hound who loves money!

Thoughts?

It's a non-issue because McCain only sought his endorsement, he didn't go to his church for 20 years.

That sound like the proper spin to you guys?

it is a non-issue and no "spin" is needed.

the left (Obama fans in particular) can't cry foul over "guilt by association" when it comes to Wright, Ayers, Farrakhan, Rashid Kaliki, Rezko and then attempt to assert that Mccain has the same type issues.

McCain sought the endorsement, then rejected it. He didn't attempt to spin Parsley's words as "snippets" plucked from a glorious 30 year career in the service of the Lord.

non-issue and a rather pathetic attempt at "gotcha" politics. I guess it's only a matter of time before the idiotic "McCain wrecked 7 US Navy planes on purpose" conspiracy pops back up.

My point is, McCain has been involved with every bit as many shady characters as Obama.

You are right though, in this case, as with the vast majority there is nothing of major consequence.

always great to see someone use alliteration. Very impressive.

Now for your next post, can you use onomatopoeia?

Sweet reference! Even more impressive spelling. I had to check on that one.

Can't roll any onomatopoeia right now, but how about a haiku?

nice little haiku with even more alliteration. I was totally guessing on my spelling but firefox didn't show the red little line saying i misspelled the word, so I went with it.

They do either way. If you look at it, most pastors preaching what the Bible says preach some sort of hate. Most are hypocritical, too. No one's perfect.

I'll agree with some of that to a point, but this schmuck Rev. Wrong has been preaching hate for 20 years now? I haven't heard my pastor preach to hate black folks or whites or anyone. Why doesn't this man preach to love everyone? Thats my problem with him.

No clue... but when I was going to church, the entire congregation followed whatever the pastor said. These people have too much influence in people's lives, I've heard from a lot of people about their pastors and religious leaders preaching hate and then that being forwarded through the congregation. I don't listen to this crap, I don't care what pastors say or who someone is affiliated with. Bleh, Rezko = poop but doesn't affect my views of Obama.

"McCain is running for George Bush's 3rd Term"

That's the kind of soundbite that will get McCain beat. I'm already hearing it from Obama.

Buffet is predicting a long painful recession. I expect by November people will be wanting some changes in Washington.

Of course Buffet is, he is funding Obama. :p I agree some might be wanting changes, but is it a Obama change we are looking for?
