This, folks, is lunacy (or just hate for Butch trying to wrap itself around a lunatic concept).

In the modern game of football, it takes at least two quarterbacks to navigate a team through a season. Minimum.

There will always be a backup who comes in to mop up when the team's well ahead, because it would be stupid to keep your best QB at risk of injury after the game's decided.

There will always be a backup who comes in when the starter is injured, or cramping, or winded, or has a uniform malfunction, or whose helmet comes off during a play.

To imagine that we could've gone Dobbs' last two seasons without a backup QB "burning redshirt opportunities" (by, you know, playing in football games) is sheer fantasy.

And once you acknowledge the need for a backup QB, why not let that backup be the best among the remaining options? That just makes sense.

And that was Dormady. So he played each of those years.

So this really dumb idea of trying to re-apply the "McBride controversy" after the fact to Quinten Dormady and the 2015 and 2016 seasons is...well, it's just dumb.

After thinking about it, I'm convinced Butch doesn't even think before he does things. Consider the following:

- McBride has not taken a single snap with 1st team in practice all year.
- Back-up QBs are generally standing with an assistant coach or the OC throughout the game, watching and being ready to go at a moment's notice. For most of the first and second quarter, McBride was basically like any other player, standing in the mob vs. anywhere near an assistant.

It's like Butch didn't prepare for or even have a plan going into the game for what he was going to do if JG went down. This is mind-boggling.

8 throws in a little over a half. Doubt he's gotten a lot of reps in practice until Dormady went down. Hard to expect him to walk out on the field and have command of the entire offense....at least to anyone with some degree of reason and thought. If Scott had gone pass happy with the new kid and he turned it over a few times, I guarantee you there would no end of people witching about why they didn't feed Kelly more. Can't win with some of the posters on this board. This staff is damned if they do and damned if they don't.

They just want another reason to pile on the coach. I don't see the problem with burning the redshirt anyway. The guy may turn out to be another Heath Shuler for all I know, but he was a 3 star qb who was going to SMU or Memphis. It's not like we can't get another qb with the same qualifications next year or the year after.

Garantano did look better, and McBride looked better in his brief appearance than either of the other quarterbacks. He is much more comfortable in the pocket and more athletic than the other two. He will be a better quarterback.

I thought MCbride did pretty well with the limited play calls he was allowed . I thought for his first time playing in a game he showed alot of composure.

Are they just looking for made-up reasons to criticize Jones, now? It shouldn't be that hard to find actual things to dump on him, but this is ridiculous. McBride might be the starter, depending on how that ankle is.

My first response to this (when they legitimately though JG was coming back for the rest of the game) was "no way he is sitting through the next three SEC games doing nothing. You know the redshirt was gone before the opening kickoff."

Bryd may or may not be a lock down there's no history other than HS so who knows.

How’d he burn two years? He played and started this year and still has two to play one. If you want to push the point that Sheriron should have been the backup last year while Dormady redshirted, I think that would have led him to believe he’d slipped on the pecking order, with many insisting he didn’t fit the offense and he most likely uses that redshirt in a transfer...so you lose him altogether. Even if he stays, at worst you “lost” one year. Can’t redshirt twice...where did you come up with two! :huh:
