I saw someone last week bash anyone for suggesting that maybe Maze and Goins should be on the floor together. Said it would not work because they are both point guards and everyone that suggested it lacked basketball IQ.

Well the attached link shows that CBP is considering playing them together.

I think you just want to go into the end of season tournaments playing with confidence and I don't think Hopson is playing that way right now.

So what you're saying is that Bruce Pearl is lacking Basketball IQ? That's what I heard.

Why not try it? Nothing else is working, I just think we are good as we're gonna get and we have to except it for what it is. Tobias Harris, McRae, and Golden can't get here quickly enough. Truth is we are just not good. Nobody can score, we have one guy who can hit free throws(Maze) and it doesn't help when the SEC is sucking Vandy and Kentucky again. Same 'ol same 'ol really. Better days will come, rather quickly I'm afraid. GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!

Might I add: Selby is a fool for not coming here. Can you imagine having him at point with Harris, Golden, McRae all on the court together. Not the place for this post? Sorry. The job would be his hands down.

I'll admit it, I was one who said we should not play both Goins and Maze at the same time. I did not foresee Scottie losing minutes, even though he hasn't played well, his potential is there to score and we need points. Also, if Tatum comes back then JP can be a back up pg if foul or fatigue become an issue. I really wish BW would get into game shape quick so we could have Hall and Chism on the floor together. I am optimistic for the remainder of the season and I don't think a sweet 16 birth is too far fetched.

What this team desperately needs is a consistent 3 point threat. Maze and Goins look like the closest thing we have to that. Vandy figured out that if you cut off Prince's passing lanes inside to Chism you could virtually shut the Vols down offensively. Hopson was suppose to be an answer but can't make 3's so no one respects his outside shot and sags on him to prevent dribble drive. Everyone rags on Prince but he's about the only "trigger" man we have had at times. If a couple of those drives he had against the Wildcats go "bucket and one", instead of "Offensive Foul" that game may have gone the other way. I like Prince, Goins and Maze on the floor at the same time, they all at least are looking to make something happen instead of waiting for something to happen. This is not a bad 3 point shooting team when they get open looks in rhythem. Unfortunately, most have been quick out of sequence looks of late. Rant ended.

I think Pearl is using this to motivate Hopson to improve and assert himself offensively. Not sure how much he will use it in game.

I'm glad he's doing something. The only thing more frustrating than watching Prince take offensive responsibility is watching Hopson avoid it.

If he does it won't be for more than a couple minutes. You can't afford to tire them both out at the same time. Josh bone isn't a true pg so don't think about that

start maze and goins... sit hopson's moping arse on the pine where it belongs.

I would. Pearl needs to put his foot down and show that type of nonchalant effort is not going to be tolerated. However, I would be shocked if he actually did that.

I posted it a few days ago and some (TNLawVol) really jumped on me... Glad the Chatt Times Press agrees with me!

You're right, I did, and I admitted to that in my first post. I also mentioned why with Tatum back, if he comes back, it makes that scenario more feasible. I also didn't expect Scottie to lose minutes, regardless of his play, not that he shouldn't lose minutes, I just didn't see it coming. Also, if you've listened to Pearl's comments this week he isn't backing down on McBee, so the amount of possible minutes at the 2 for Goins or Maze doesn't seem to be a whole lot. The glory with all this is that tonight will tell all.

But you're right, I was and am against them both playing, and I don't yet have a newspaper backing my theories. Well played.
