Maymon,Stokes,McRae all support Martin to Cal

Cuonzo is a douche bag and UT will be better in the long run

Lol there's a reason you get the millions and the spotlight. Being a head coach at a big university comes with expectations and pressure. All these people try to vilanize vol fans like we're crazy for being pissed off at him when his team was failing most of the year. He just couldn't handle it. Good riddance have fun at cal where no1 cares.

He got out while he had an opportunity, if canned next year I doubt he would have decent options.

Exactly what I believe he was thinking. It was a very good decision by Martin IMO. Pretty sure he knew Hart was not into a monster buyout reconstruction too.

Unless Hart is as brainless as Hammy, he would not jack up his buyout only to have to fire him after a very possible sub .500 season with fan mutiny rampant and a BBB v2.0 (that's Bring Back Buzz) Petition next year.

Martin knew his support had eroded w fans and admins (rightfully or not) and took a super opportunity when it came open. Happy for the guy actually. Happy for UT in a possible upgrade scenario too. Although, I was hoping (just like this year) that he could have turned it around at the beginning of the season and had a long career here.

Makes things crystal clear.

Gary Parrish ‏@GaryParrishCBS
That UT players seem to be publicly siding with Cuonzo Martin should tell you they didn’t like the way their coach was treated.

Jarnell Stokes ‏@JarnellStokes
@GaryParrishCBS agreed

My response to that is that they shouldn't have waited until the end of the year to start playing then.

Agreed why does this team and coach act like their entitled to undying support and no criticism. If you don't want to be in the spotlight don't step in it. Such cry babies all of them. I'm pretty sure out attends numbers were still close to top in the nation but they didnt get enough support cuz we said they sucked when they sucked? I'm confused

That is the question of the year! If they really alluded to that in that manner, then they have some splainin' to do IMO.

And if it works, I say we start a new before the season this year and maybe we'll end up with an SEC and National Title.:eek:k:

Cuonzo said as much. I read a quote today from him where he said it didn't sit well with the players and he used it as motivation. He said it woke up a sleeping bear and made them hungry.

Why were we sleeping? And why did the staff allow them to "sleep"?

That is exactly what I would like to know. Billy Donovan said pre-season that Tennessee was the team to worry about. He wasn't asked @ UT, just who would be good. He knew that we were loaded for a deep run.

If it takes a Fire the Coach petition to get you motivated to prove your own fans wrong, then something is seriously amiss. How can you ever expect to build lasting success with those credentials? :banghead2:

An average coach, producing average results, being paid an above average wage, will never be successful. When you are paid millions, regardless of profession, expectations are extremely high. Extraordinary results are expected without fail. PERIOD.

Well... anyone want to start another petition?

Yep, I petition the media and coaches take a course on just what an online petition means and how telling it is. I further petition that fans on either side of the issue take a separate course on what an online petition means and it's value. All groups shall therefore be educated that online petitions mean about as much as a hug from mickey mouse at Disney or an online troll's banter and are just as representative of an entire group as the bell tower shooter is to all university students; which is to say they are not only meaningless but also representative of no one - not even petitioners sign for identical or even similar reasons.

Finally, I petition that any reporter that reports an online petition started by 'fans' regardless of the sport or subject as news and/or newsworthy or as representative of a fan base or otherwise takes one seriously be stripped of all press credentials and forced to apologize for being so stupid and further that any coach found taking one seriously be stripped of his common sense card.

I don't understand did one of his paychecks not clear the bank or something?
He was paid to do a job. He did it and the school paid him.
This wasn't some volunteer action he was doing for community service. For 2/3 of the season the product was not anything great by any means.
I think the petition was silly but if Coach Martin gets butthurt over fans being upset about a bad product or the school actually wanting to see results before they give him RESPECT he is in the wrong profession.
Who cares anyway Coach Jones is taking us back to the promised land in the next few years and basketball will again be relegated back to something we do just waiting on football to begin.

Best post in this thread. The petition meant nothing. It was not news. Martin was upset due to the booster issue of withholding assets and took an opportunity when his stock could not be higher. Let's hope we can move on and get someone better to unify our fragmented bunch of fruitcake fans.

BP made UT BB something it hadn't been since Ernie/ Bernie. EXCITING! Everything's back to normal now. SEC also rans AU gets the excitement we once knew. If Butch gets it done-------I wont worry about BB.

The problem here is that people are acting like Martin's leaving is a bad thing - which I don't understand. It's the best thing that could happen......he was going nowhere and had hit his ceiling here (which is saying a lot about his coaching ability).

Good for McRae, Stokes, Maymon, and Richardson loving their coach. I'd think a lot more of them if they loved Tennessee more than their coach. That's what VFL's do. Look at the old Vol footballers rallying to the new coach. Guys like Martin come and go. You only have one Alma Mater.

Don't confuse the conservation with logic!

You all clearly don't understand basketball. The team played well all year. The numbers bare that out. KenPom--whom every single coach in the nation respects--had UT in the top ten all year. They beat the hell out of UVA by 35 points.

They had a couple of unlucky losses. THat happens in short seasons.

Our fanbase--once again--gets what it deserves.

The statement in bold is a stretch. But at least they played well part of the season.

I support Cuonzo to Cal too. I'm happy for him, his family and UT. It's not a GWB style "Youre either with us or your with the terrorists" deal.

Hart played Cuonzo into this. Excellent job by Mr Hart in my opinion. Cuonzo had no confidence in going forward and displayed it by looking elsewhere....I appreciate his time at UT but leaving without talking to the team first really has revealed quite a lot about what was going on behind the curtain.

That's true. You folks are nuts. If I'm a coach at University A and I have idiots starting a petition to have me fired I'm looking for my next job. You'll never please those people and unfortunately they seem to have clout. I'd be gone. You know, the funny thing about the fanbase here is, there's always the next guy to abuse and dissect. Half the fanbase wont be happy with who we hire and will start in on him immediately. What will be funny is watching you bust veins in your heads because there isn't a coach worth crap that will touch this redneck place. He wont do it. I wouldn't do it. I'd go mid-major before I ever came to this place.

How the post should read. Results in the top quarter of the league while compensated in the bottom quarter.

Then why not ban online petition sites and save everyone a lot of time.
