lol you posted a clip and Article about what Trump didn’t condemn but there is a clip of him condemning the Neo Nazis

If you don’t participate in toppling statues you’re a nazi. If you support not toppling statues you’re a nazi. If you protest not toppling statues you’re a nazi.

Wouldn't put it past the man. Do you think he's intimidating them for a specific purpose or just general nuisance?

I honestly think a lot of the stuff he does is just to see what he can get away with. He's making off like a bandit so far.

I'm imagining what this place would look like back in 2009 if Obama was deploying the NG in republican dominated states under the guise of "making the streets safer".

It would look about like it does now with the sides reversed.

I'm not as certain of that as I am not wanting to live in a dangerous neighborhood.
I'm guessing that unlike many people in those communities, however, you are not approaching this issue from the perspective of someone who has a deeply-ingrained distrust of the police.

I think in general that used to be true but now all it takes is Trump saying that a police state is really what we wanted the whole time and it becomes true in the minds of many.
Yeah ..... and Trump's embrace of socialism will be justified as well.

It's the "He's an SOB .... but he's our SOB," logic.

I say it a lot on here, but the mentality is textbook cult of personality. Whatever it is .... it's acceptable as long as Trump is doing it.

You know, it's funny because with any other president it probably would raise a red flag. But with trump it doesn't. I don't know and I have not yet learned how to distinguish something that is a bombastic troll job to manipulate people, from what is a bad idea that he's really committed to, or something that is off the cuff idiocy.
So I don't get super invested in what he says he will do. I mean I know we have to talk about it because there would be nothing to talk about if we didn't.
I’m sorry but you don’t get to poo-poo the mobilizing of American troops on American soil on the basis of personality traits, especially when it appears to be politically motivated. Nobody gets to skate by when their responsibility to govern American citizens based on the constitution is so important.

NG isn't the police. Correct?
If they are serving in a law enforcement and peace-keeping capacity, then the people in those communities won't differentiate them from police. In fact, the level of resentment could increase because those National Guardsmen aren't likely from the areas where they are serving.

And who the hell made you arbiter of what I concern myself with?

In my previous discussion with hog, I didn't see an unconstitutional angle to it. Will discuss with you, if you want.

Are they serving as police in DC?

They're not from the local community, they don't know anybody, they don't have intel, and they're not trained for this job. Cops have a hell of a time handling civilians, and this is the job. This is what they were trained for and what they've been doing for years.

You can't just send a cop to war. He wouldn't be ready for that. And you can't bring in the NG to police property crimes. It's idiotic. They don't know how to do stuff on this scale with Americans who have constitutional rights.

How dare the NG do this.

My understanding is that in DC they are basically providing screen door protection in low crime areas so the police can focus on higher crime areas. They have no business being used outside DC, but I would imagine they would do something similar if they were.

Can’t believe the NG did this also
