I am a teacher, and I have done a lot of coaching (teams I coached won 4 District titles in 6 years, sorry had to boast a little:biggrin:). I take more pride in my teaching than I ever did coaching. What I do know about the profession I'm in, is that the really good teachers can teach anything. Coaching and teaching are the same thing, you are using your skills so that someone can acquire knowledge needed to preform. If DeBord knows offensive football he will have no trouble with the spread, and I'm sure he can help our young QB's, he's been around a few. I think we got a good football coach, who has proven he can teach offensive football. Just let the guy come in an coach.

Agreed give the man a chance to prove himself. He won a national championship, unlike the majority of other ocs/coaches

Old coaches! Can Dick LeBeau coach? Can Monte Kiffin coach? Can Joe Pa coach? Can Bobby at FSU coach?

Whether he can or cannot coach, he's coming. All concerned should come to grips with that immutable fact by what ever means they can bring to bear.

If you are a teacher what are you doing on Volnation? Get back to educating our youth...my tax money demands it.

Did you get interviewed for the OC job? You seem just as qualified. :)

Can he call plays in a hurry up offense? Not because he's old but because he hasn't done it before. In our offense that play call has to be there as soon as the last play is over. Not saying he can't but I would rather have someone thats done it.

Butch has talked recently about targeting players who have previously won championships. That is because there is something very powerful about being on a championship team. Taking a championship in anything -- regardless of sport or level -- is very difficult and it takes special people to pull it off. Winning championships is infectious and it breeds a desire to win more championships. DeBord has this in his background and he will be coaching players who have the same background and an expectation to win championships. I am excited to see how this all plays out. I think we all need to give the guy a chance to prove himself before he gets trashed any more.

Pffft... nothing to boast about. Most of the posters on VN can win a national championship every year if they were coaches.

He just needs to call the plays faster. It not as hard as people think, most coaches know the next play call while the current play is unfolding. The player groupings and packages is the hard part, but his offensive position coaches should have that covered. I think he will do fine.

Titans just hired Dick LeBeau who might be the best ever. He will oversee the Defense as the assistant head coach. He's got to be in his 70's age is just a number. I keep telling myself this the older I get.

12-34 as a head coach.

52-11 at Michigan as a coordinator...but somehow the head coach doesn't get any credit for these wins...it somehow was all Debord????

that's how it works on VN. The ones that hangs on to BJ every word will tell you he won all 52 of those games.
I like BJ but he took a step back with this hire. People will say look what he did 100 years ago. look what he was doing for the last 3 years. teaching monkey flips, breast strokes and under water sewing.
If Debored fails then BJ fails and we all know how this fan base will turn on a coach.

probably because Stripling has called a play since 2006. Debord has been giving swimming lessons.

That's cute. I noticed you answered a different question than he asked. That would be 'recent experience' not age.
