Maybe if we (the fans) were not so arrogant ...

I am sick of getting on here and being so arrogant! All I heard was that we would win by 3 - 4 touchdowns, this won't be close, they are on the third QB, Clawson and Crompton are the men. Anyone who dared to say this might be close, was told they were an idiot!

We have a NEW OC who has no experience at this level. A NEW QB who hasn't played in 2 years. We have JOHN CHAVIS and his great mustang package. And Finally, we have PHIL FULMER?? So, why can't we be realists and realize that we have to earn the right to be arrogance. When we act like we do on these boards, no wonder people revel in our defeats. Now, go ahead and rip me if you must, but the truth hurts.

As for me, I think Fulmer does need to go and Chavis too. I think Clawson will be okay IN TIME and I think Crompton will improve IN TIME as well. As for me, I will be in Neyland Stadium pulling for the Vols come September 13th!
Go Vols

P.S. - basketball wil be here before you know it!

Any decently disciplined and well coach team would have beat UCLA by 3-4 touchdowns.. and it looked that way early in the 3rd quarter until the fumble. UCLA didn't have an offensive touchdown till waaaay late...no excuse for not handily beating this team.

As if UCLA didn't have questions marks. Give me a freaking break.

I Didn't say they didn't. I just want to know when UT has the right to be this arrogant about a season filled with questions marks. That's all. We need humility so let's accept it!

It should have been a blow out 4 ints in the 1st half and only got 7 points. Fumble the ball in the red zone. Death.

Come on some of the cockiest fans are USC and Ohio St. fans it doesn't seem to be a problem for their football teams.

I honestly thought we would win big. I had the orange blinders on though. Crompton didn't impress me a few back and he definitely didn't impress me tonight, until the very end. He underthrew and overthrew the ball pretty much every time. When he made a good throw the receivers dropped it or didn't help him out. I think Clawson did a good job except a few times. Crompton will hopefully get better with experience.

You're right, as long as Fulmer is the coach we should all feel like fools for thinking we could beat anyone.

we should have won by 3-4 touchdowns. we couldn't turn early turnovers into points, we stubbornly looked to crompton over and over and over again on first and second down. and foster fumbled on the go ahead touchdown

I'll complain about it in every thread, but Chavis plays off and refuses to adjust. He gets out coached time and time again. I know it's not his fault about the O, but still...

That's kinda my point, changes at the top, or lack of, means more of the same. Phil is a great man. Kids love to play for him and that should account for something, but we play too much to go to these games to get what we are getting.

Tonight, I never could figure out what our offensive game plan was. Give Clawson and Crompton credit tonight for the last two drives in regulation. Gutsy and Championship like. That's why I think in time we will be okay.

Norm Chow kicked his rear end (Chavis) Another point, UCLA gets Chow and we take a flier on a D2 OC. (Fulmer's hire)

you nailed it. Our arrogance as fans, expecting our team to beat a injury riddled 2nd tier (at best) program, clearly is our program's problem.

If we could just get our fans to be more practical in oue approach, these embarrassing losses would just become old hat and nobody would have to get their feathers ruffled.

Believe me, our arrogance has nothing to do with us getting beat. You may be on something though with your last point! maybe we should just get used to it.

fans being arrogant has nothing to do with how the team performs.

With that said, the O played pitiful tonight, especially our O-line. They didn't give Crompton any time to throw the ball. Foster makes another crucial fumble when we were about to go up by 2 touchdowns and Lincoln missed 3 field goals. Not a good way to start the season.

Defense played great first half and most of the 3rd quarter, and then Craft just picked us apart in the 4th quarter. Special Teams come back to haunt us again.

I agree with all of that but what I don't understand is that we never really tried to establish the running game. Then again, I thought Cutcliffe tried to establish it too much. I didn't ever think I would beg for a running game effort! But, that's what is lost on me tonight

The few times we got it to 2nd and 3 or 4 by running the ball, we would then throw it twice.

Vol Fam, there is no need to panic or talk down about the program because with a few minor adjustments, things will get back to Big Orange football. These are the minor adjustments:
1. New coach-Fulmer is an OK coach; however, he seem a little more concerned about his salary and living the high life in Knoxville rather than teaching our boys about life, keeping them out of trouble, and how to win big in SEC football. UT go all over the world looking for quarterbacks and other marquee players while ignoring many high school players in Tennessee. Crowson is not that bad; however, there is no way he should be leading the UT VOLS into battle as a starter. Now, if we had a great record to show for recruitng all over the nation, then there would be an argument, but with all these players from Cali, AZ, LA, HI, and etc, we still are a mediocre team. Fulmer has been trying to find another Peyton ever since Peyton left UT, failing to realize as good as Peyton was, it was the athleticism and skill of T Martin that brought the trophy home to Knoxville. We need an athletic quarterback like T Martin. We need head hunters on defense like Leonard Little, Will Overstreet, and Al Wilson. We need bruisers like Travis Henry, Jamal Lewis. We need sure handers like Marcus Nash and Peerless. Somebody please, bring back the UT football back to its glory days!!
