Maybe CJH knew all along...

It doesn’t look like Nico improved any at all from last year. He looks very much like he did last year, and his stats are in line, too.

He might not make even $1 in NIL money next year if he continues as-is. And nothing suggests that he will magically take even one step up.

This is one of the most mind-boggling circumstances I can recall in my many decades of following sports. His dad and agent appear to be the two biggest idiots I can remember.

Joey is the clear winner in this with Tennessee a close second. Think about it. Joey was playing at Appalachian State last season. A good program for its level, but the SEC was a pipe dream. And then by Nico’s pure stupidity, Joey ends up not at some low-tier SEC school…but Tennessee, which has been a historical, national program that made the playoffs just last season. This is outhouse to penthouse stuff.

Joey seems like a genuine, good young man…the opposite of spoiled, entitled Nico. Good for him!

Nico does have exceptional physical talent. And I think he had a chance to develop into a very good QB under Heupel and likely get drafted. I don’t see that happening at UCLA, and I can see him being benched before the season ends.
Well they got like 8 other QBs on the roster to give it a go.

Agreed and it’s hard to believe it worked out this way but we truly ended up with the more capable QB. I’m not discounting Nico’s arm talent because dude can sling it but as a whole Joey is simply a more effective QB.

Notice how brooks constantly shoots down the Heupel QB narrative.

What we’ve learned is that CJH can have success with any QB.
In the end, Nico wasn’t special and, as we found out, worth that $8 million out of high school.

I wonder though, in terms of investment, how many (other) players have we (gotten) because we gave a QB $8 million dollars?

Certainly a waste of money on the field, but off the field it helped inject some energy on the recruiting trail.

Tennessee is willing to spend for top rated talent. That shows other recruits that we have money to pull in the teammates they need to succeed. Even though it didn't work out with Nico here, it still helped us nab some other guys on the trail knowing that we had a top recruit coming in at the helm.

Now Heupel has to adjust a little bit for this year, but Faizon is kind of the same factor for the future.
