Maybe a little surprising

We’re in a deeper hole than most fans admit.

There is certainly some Baghdad Bob syndrome going around here. People are trying themselves up to be disappointed in the recruiting front. While we are in on some big names and it is nice to be in the convo many of them are considering us soley or if respect for coach. It's going to be very, very difficult to close with those big names.

The gruden handle was a jab at all of you morons who thought he was coming because a Beaver and fake big wig in Atlanta said so. Now you're on the Pruit train just like Kiffen, Dooley, and Butch, except he's off to a worse start than all three. And the fact, if true, that he took Easter off is BS, should have been working.

But the truth is he took several weeks away from his duties due to his Bammer loyalties, which should have been red flag #1.
Talking up recruiting and his staff's unparalleled ability, then not performing there is red flag #2.
Calling out fans in a fanbase that had the 3rd largest showing for a spring game in the SEC (after not winning a single SEC game nonetheless) is red flag #3.
Flipping players around from offense to Defense without a plan or continuity (including one who showed out on offense and came here because he was promised to play offense, but was moved to defense) is red flag #4.
A poorer showing than expected in the O&W game by our secondary which is full of talent that needs coaching is red flag #5.
The insistence on using the exact same system as Bama and Georgia (that both are evolving away from) that relies on having superior talent, yet without being able to pull in talent that can line up and compete agains them is red flag #6.
Sounding like a moron in every press conference is red flag #7.
Hiring an assistent solely to interpret what the offense is doing is red flag #8.
Failing to be a leader and take control as a head coach by insisting on staying on the defensive side of the ball and letting the offense do their thing is red flag #10.
Being a supposed defensive guru yet our defense gave up 34 points to a QB that couldn't buy a score for most of the year last year and the worst O-line in school history is red flag #11.

I could go on, but Volnation is the congregating place of the dumbest of what has become the dumbest fanbase in America, so it won't help.

I am also a bit disappointed in the recruiting. I expected a good player or two in the late signing period. Ok, that didn’t happen. I did expect one or two comments from the spring game. Those of us expecting commitments didn’t say they had to be 5 stars. I would take a high three or 4, just for the momentum.

As people noted Butch would take some 3 stars and replace them later if necessary. The biggest sales gimmick there is is saying the remaining spots are going fast. I don’t want Butch back but we need some MO.

Pruitt just made his first public relations blunder. The spring game attendance was good considering where we are and have been.

I like Pruitt but he doesn’t walk on water.

I think Pruitt is less focused on manipulating the fan messaging and more focused on messaging to the Team and those he may be recruiting. He knows the only thing acceptable is to deliver on the field, so no need to spout Butchisms or make fans happy with recruit timing. Its all about winning and the rest takes care of itself. At least that is what is seems like he is doing.

I’m not that concerned at this time. I agree with you about winning. If I’m a recruit, I’m taking a wait and see stance even if I love UT. Upsetting a ranked team or two would go a long way in helping to gain the confidence of recruits.

You try and say that the people here are dumb (yourself would be included) but then you go on and try and put a lot of stock into the actual orange and white game. On what our defense may look like because of it. You really may be dumb. Actually for anyone to put a lot of stock in a scrimmage the way you did puts you at the top of the dumbest fans anywhere for any team.

What do you guys expect lol we are coming off the worst season in UT football history and a 1st time head coach who is let’s be real here learning on the job. Recruits have finally gotten to the point to where the excellent facilities and tradition we have only mattere so much. We have to start winning on the field again to matter. I can’t lie I love Tennessee but if I was a 17 or 18 year old recruit I would be looking at Bama of Georgia or Clemson right now not UT. That can change however if Pruitt is the man for the job and can get some big wins. I’m not overly concerned right now about recruiting if we are having this same conversation a year from now then I might be a little worried.

You're right. He should be 100 percent judged by how he has performed thus far, just like Saban should have been judged when he signed a class full of three stars when he took over, and he should have been run out of Tuscalooser for sure when he lost to LA Monroe.....huge red flags there.

we didn’t pick up a commitment yesterday. Almost all the teams picked up a commit during their spring game. I know be patient but it’s a little surprising.

And per the HC, players quit. That is the biggest issue with the spring game. Players are already quitting on this coach and we haven't even made it to the first game.

Pruitt is not doing a good job in pushing the Tennessee brand. He is still acting like an OC not a HC. Part of the HC job is selling your school, your vision and your program. He is not doing that.

If he doesn't feel confident that his assistants can carry the coaching load, then he hired the wrong assistants.

SOME players quit. He’ll get rid of them and we’ll judge the remainder. Happens every (good) coaching change.

Blah blah blah. Not going to compete with your word diarrhea. I’ll just point out that if Pruitt doesn’t flip Emerson and Crosby, we don’t have this Spring game in a REAL format! We needed bodies and he was forward thinking. I’ll judge the rest by the total effort and work product of an ACTUAL SEASON. Easy to nitpick and demand from the comfort of a message board...but said effort doesn’t affect anything.
