I've been out since '98 and the menus had improved drastically from the time I joined in 1985. I'm not sure how we were supposed to fight knowing we had a dehydrated pork patty, dehydrated potato cake, dehydrated fruit cocktail, squeeze cheese and some of the deadliest crackers known to man.

TRUT, do you remember the vile concoction that was chicken ala king?
I remember chicken ala king and also that horrible frankfurter meal. I am also the days of trading up for cocoa powder are long gone. Much better options these days (french vanilla cappuccino is outstanding.)

Chicken and Rice with Tabasco was the way to go
The only one I really couldn't take was the Corned Beef

the beef and pork patty meals were the worst. all of the others you could put enough hot sauce on to make bearable.

when I was in basic and for the first couple of years I was in, the MRE's didn't have the little bottles of tabasco.

If I remember correctly, in the late 80's, MRE's came from either McAllen, TX or Mullins, SC. The meals from Texas were a lot better. Things weren't all bad back then, though. The Cherry nut cake and chocolate nut cake desserts were pretty good.
