yes sir i was there. The song was called "we ready." it was amazing how much energy there was when it came on. But when it went off, same ol story of not too loud.

While they're at it, they may as well close down our upper deck, because that amount of people would be about as many as there are each game that sit on their hands. We need to get good, and do it quickly. Those fans became fans back when Neyland was coaching, so a 3 loss season just isn't cutting it. If you want them to get into the game, either kick them out or win. Because they'll show up every single game, win or lose.

I think it's officially time to stop the shuttles coming from the Nursing Homes!

In the 70's when I was there the endzones where not checkered. I never heard Coach Battle or Coach Majors recite the Maxims. We did still have the Tennessee Walking Horse. In fact when Majors first arrived, he wanted to change the Power T to scripted VOLS, much like Pitt had at the time. That was voted down. The "I will give my all for Tennessee today" sign was there, of course coming from underneath the east sidelines.

I think that you can talk about them and instill the ideas into players minds but, I agree the recitation is cheesy and obviously has no effect on the players.

I say keep them on the walls and in players minds. Then the Maxims will not just be nostalgia but truely a relevant part of the Tennessee Winning Tradition!

I've gone to I don't know how many University of Virginia games, and they're crowd is PITIFUL. But they had this thing sometimes and the crowd got louder than even when a TD was scored. And also, they had like a fight between "Cav Man" and the mascot of the other team and after "Cav Man" won, he would jump on his horse(on the jumbotron) and start riding and then run into the tunnel(on the jumbotron) then out of the real tunnel followed by the team. It was beast.

Guess I'm the only one that thinks the maxims are a real waste of pre-game preparation. Who, besides me, caught the pregame before the Florida game two years ago on CBS? It was sickening. PF comes in clapping and said, "You guys looked really good in warm ups." When they started reciting the maxims, it was like nap time for some. There was no excitment in the air about the maxims. You need to be jacked up before you go play in front of 100,000+ fans, not bored from having to recite really old football talk. There's my .02 cents. Fire away.

No, I think that it was because the horse slipped and fell at a game when it had been raining, or something like that, and they were afraid to do it anymore.
At least, that's what I've heard, but it is one of the traditions that I would like to see come back.

I'm with you. They are great to have around in the lore of UT football, but reciting them is just too much.

I agree. They don't matter if the players don't take them to heart. I don't think the team will have trouble getting fired up with Coach O and Monte around.

Checkerboard end zone has to stay.

i think he does play a prominent role. We are the volunteers. Got the name from so many people volunteering to go to the alamo to fight. If im not mistaken, he lost his life there. Nothing to be ashamed of. And with battling in the alamo, we won texas. So for the texas ppl who claim to be the real ut, i like telling them without tennessee, their prolly wouldnt be a texas.

Speaking as one of Biz's old timers, I too would like some stirring music played. I'm thinking Queen, but I guess we need to win a current championship to be singing "We are the Champions.............of the world". Hell of a motivational song though.

As far as the Maxims, I have mixed feelings, I thought they were recited previous to Fulmer. If not then keep them posted, drop the recitation. The Vol Walk, Salute to the Hill, Checkered Endzone (hate checkerboards - sounds like an old man's game), The pregame show, David Crockett ( he hated being called Davy BTW) should always remain. They are part of the game day experience, and I can assure you every player who first visited as a recruit was influenced by them.

Traditions are more than old folks memories. They are what binds the generations together in a common union of what it means to be a Vol fan. Remember, you will be old one day.

The Volunteer nickname came from Tennessee's over filling it's quota given each state for the Spanish-American war.

Reciting or not reciting the Maxim's is'nt a big deal to me. I do think they should keep them up on the wall in the locker room.

Checkerboard endzone's MUST stay. Everyone across the country think's of Tennessee when they see the orange & white checkerboard's.

The sign that say's " I will give my all for Tennessee today " should stay & they should have to keep touching it when they run out to go onto the field. ( Look @ how many team's across the country has adopted a concept like this , a TON )

I think the Tennessee Walking horse should be brought back. Everytime we score in any kind of way i think Davy Crockett should have to get on the horse with the big Power T flag & trot through the opposite endzone that we scored on waving the flag around.

Here is my opinion on how to create some noise for defense. They should video record Orgeron painted up in Orange ripping off one of his Tennessee shirt's, once he does he should scream something in the affect of " Get Louder ", " I Can't Hear You ", or " Defense " while flexing making him look like the Hulk, once he the video goes off throw some hard rock or rap music over the P.A.

I hope we start a new tradition that will involve us winning more than one SEC championship in a given decade....
