Maxims, Checkerboards, & Tradition

I want to see a tradition of having decibel meters throughout the stadium and the readout being shown on the jumbotron. I think that would really help with the noise level sometimes if the crowd knew how loud they were. You could even have a jet taking off on the jumbotron at 120 db or the maximum and averages. It would give the crowd the ability to "compete" with itself throughout the game.

Man, this is good. Seriously, this is real good. I like this.

Thats a great idea. . .maybe we could get back to the orange crush defense and work that in with your idea

i like this also. I went to a ut game about 3 yrs ago and i was in a section where it was all alumni ppl prolly in their 60's. The section we was in was the quietest section in the whole stadium. They were golf clapping in the most intense moments of the game. I was just amazed by how horrible it was. I also wanna make Neyland a feared place to come into. If the 100,000 plus aint making noise, imo, its not really that big of home field advantage.

I'm with you all the way business. If you have never seen the Virginia Tech intro watch it on you tube. Nothing says college football like heavy metal. Can't you just hear a little Linkin Park "No More Sorrow" blasting louding enough to hear all the way to Turkey Creek with 100,000 people going crazy.

Basically, I'm all about making Neyland one of the most ruckus, hell raising, loudest, in your face, stadiums in the US.

The band jamming out "Living on a Prayer" between TV commercial breaks just isn't doing it.

I agree - and think our band should have more "pep" songs to play like others (The Imperial March, UGA's "junkyard dog" refrain from Bad Lerory Brown).

one idea I had that tags along some other comments is to use the "Theme From Davy Crockett"
that last little bit "Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier" could be a quick burst for a strong defensive stand.

not to mention the obvious new nickname for Neyland Stadium could be "The Wild Frontier"

Whoa Whoa Whoa Cowboy.

I said good rock music. No Linkin Park. Also, I wouldn't change the enterance into the stadium. Just on 3rd and shorts, on kick offs. It doesn't even have to be rock, just something to get the masses off their ass and raising fuss.

I was sickened by the display of hell raising at the Florida game last season and I was in the student section. I was amongst a bunch of TI-83'ers. Crank it up, throw me in the most pit.

I didn't mean change the entrance either although I can see how it looks that way. And hey LP has one or two good songs that one just has a hype building intro. Either way we agree completley.

I was thinking the new tradition could be Coach O fighting a bear before every game. And by fighting i mean kill because the bear wouldn't have a chance.

I would like to see us do something in between 3rd and 4th quarter. I was at the florida game last year, and it was so lame seeing everyone just sit there as florida fans were swaying to "we are the boys from ole florida."

A little crowd participation apart from the "wooo" would be nice every now and then.

or just have him do it with every team's mascot. Sure, Peta might complain but they are really outnumbered in TN anyway.

Might want to rethink it when we're playing USCjr though. Don't really want to see him wrestle a...:whistling:

We definitely need to work on making more noise. It gets loud but everyone needs to really focus when we're on D and make it insane.

Years ago against Florida CBS had a decibel meter they put on when we played D. I remember it would hover around 110 and the refs had stated that if it got much louder they could throw a flag against Tennessee. That always seemed lame, but we never got loud enough for the flag.

I know a lot of old timers around here won't like this one bit, but some hell raising music at the right times would be nice. I'm not trying to turn this into a "Rap Music at a football Game" thread, because rap music needs to stay with basketball.

I just think a little ass kicking rock music would fire some people up that aren't down with football as much as we may be.
First, I hate rap music, BUT does anyone remember last yr for the Bama game when they played some before the defense took the field? The crowd went nuts and the defense was jumping around, having fun, and played a great 3 and out series.
Second, the end zones should stay, maxims should stay, Davy should stay but I did like the JumboTron idea. That would just be cool!:yahoo:

I think the student section should moon the opponents when they are receiving the ball or making FG attempts.

I like all of the traditions EXCEPT the Maxims. Ditch the maxims--they are old-fashioned and reciting them is really cheesy IMO. And my father played for Neyland! Reciting "maxims" isn't going to make us a better football team---getting some good players and kicking some ass on the practice field, getting tougher and more talented, is what we need. Apparently at ND, Charlie Weis still has to wear Knute Rockney's old underwear. It's a tradition. ;)

Start messing with traditions and you just might see some pretty bad stuff coming from us "oldtimers". Don't need rock music, smoke, or any of that other crap. If you can't get fired up when the defense is trying to stop Tebow on 3rd and short on their own goal line then you have no business being at the game in the first place.

Ever go to a Titans game? Its more like a production than anything else. It has no soul, its more about the experience than the game.

College Football is about the game.
