Max Gilbert to Arkansas

Thought for a minute there that Maxxy had somehow become the kicker for the Ravens without me knowing about it lol

(Ravens kicker just missed a chip shot FG on last play of the game ending Baltimores season when if he made it-they we're going to the playoffs)

This is a bit of a surprise because Arkansas had a freshman kicker this season who was the #1 ranked kicker out of high school and he had said he was coming back. Guess the new staff just preferred Gilbert, wonder if there were any prior connections.

One would think that it has to be very difficult for coaching staffs to evaluate young kickers and their ability to perform in stressful/clutch kicking situations from a random recruiting visit.

I hope that we find a veteran kicker out there that has some film demonstrating that ability.

Naaa, you just got a taste of the real world where every 50 yard kick doesn't go through the middle of the goal posts. Most people on this board haven't figured that out yet.

Bet the staff was open to him leaving to cut down on the embarrassing displays on social media from our SNARKIEST NEGAS. A really bad look.

Some really character challenging shots at a young man available for the world to see en masse. Our competition for his replacement could share a few links. All is fair in love, war and recruiting. The real issue was handled really poorly by an embarrassing large contingent of prolific “fans”.

It was “only” 44 yards. The kicker was 29-29 on kicks under 50 yards until that point. But obviously he “chokes” under pressure.

The real irony is this was only a potentially GW kick because another NFL kicker missed the previous extra point!

I'm sure Heupel is all over this with the usual foresight, planning, and proactiveness he brings to everything he does..........

All I can say is thank goodness for people like you, who have the wisdom, maturity, and tact to lecture others about a lack of same.

The Ravens kicker was a rookie man. Team tried to go cheap after the Justin Tucker issue.

Always amazes me, spend how much on payroll? $200 million/yr/team or NIL ($15-$20.million/yr for serious P4 teams) and then get cheap on your kicker. Statistically, your kicker is going to win or lose you 2-3 games a year

How much we spend on NIL this year? $18 million or so. Max missing the kick vs Ga and his issues in the Oklahoma game contributed greatly to the loss there so that's two games.

Just seems like dropping an extra few hundred thousand $ on a guy with ice water in his veins might be a good investment for any team. What do I know though.....

We win vs Ga and Oklahoma-we would have been in the playoffs last season brother. Did we deserve it? Hell no, but having Max vs a guy who didn't puke himself on national TV was the difference for us between grabbing a home playoff game and going to the Music City Bowl to play freaking Illinois.

If I'm not mistaken I think Max was from the Memphis area and was wondering the same thing about a possible connection to Silverfield.
