I don't "know" a bunch about all the reasons these guys leave... but I'd bet my house this one was due to a not so gentle nudge.

Kid could probably use a George Cafego type influence on his kicking career, the fiasco with Georgia was self inflicted as Georgia was out of time outs and Heupel end game play calling and time out simply iced our own kicker. A fresh start and new set of eyes should allow Max another shot at a kicking career,

Don’t understand all the hate this kid gets from VN.

Rumors of some taking it way too far with death threats.

Everyone puts the lose to Georgia on this kid when he was just a small reason. I blame CJH for that lose more than anyone because we get a turnover in plus territory and he plays for the field goal to go up by 8 instead of trying to go up 2 scores. The defense gave up a 4th and forever TD and a 2 point conversion to tie the game.

Good luck Mr. Gilbert

His only kick that was WAY off was the GA kick, but our Oline and coach didn’t do him any favors. The others were closer misses, I know they still don’t count, but over the past 2 years he was pretty accurate.

Max Gilbert's percentage as a freshman was better than Alex Walls, Michael Palardy, Daniel Lincoln, James Wilhoit, and only Alex Walls did better as a sophomore. Technically Cimaglia did better as a sophomore but he only attempted 13 field goals. Gilbert's cumulative totals rank him as the 4th most accurate kicker (out of all regular kickers) for Tennessee since 2000. But clearly that wasn't good enough.

Based off his performance so far, he'll probably be quite good somewhere else.

Gilbert was literally one of the best kickers in Ut history, percentage wise. But ya can’t mess with a kickers confidence the GA miss and the TN fan base are a brutal place to exist in and miss one of those. Go get paid and kick young fella.

I have to say, this is the first time I have ever fully witnessed the power of these threads here on Volnation actually carry weight with the football program. First it was the DC, then defense assistants, and now our kicker. We (some of our posters) must be receiving NIL deals too.
Wouldn’t you like to know :)

He's currently 98th in the nation and 13th in the SEC in make percentage. He's not good in any way, shape or form by current standards.

Per Austin Price, he had been planning on entering the portal since the UGA game.

He should consider a dose of Propranolol before each game. Beta blocker. Blocks the effects of adrenaline. Gets rid of the stage fright nerves without sedating or impairing judgment or reaction time. Many performers or public speakers use it.
I heard popping open a can of Booty Sweat is a sure fire solution! Saw it in a documentary about the making of a Vietnam
war era movie with Robert Downey Junior and Ben Stiller.

Well , no surprise here. Many will be ecstatic, but it just shows what incredible pressure young 17 year olds are under to perform. He will probably go on to be the best kicker in the NFL. (with our luck) . No room for error in this day and time with college football. Hope you are successful.
