Max Gilbert appreciation thread

It really isn't but sitting on the couch is easy to criticize. Most can barely balance their bank account, but they know kicking mechanics and fundamentals.

You love to scurry away but can’t help but come back to your mess.

We can all (save for a select few) recognize that Gilbert cost Tennessee several games this season. Where do “mechanics and fundamentals” come into play, when assessing objective performance (statistically speaking), exactly?

So you are being called out for being sucky fan. Must be because it seems to be a consensus decision by the non trailer trash segment of our fanbase. We all have to deal with this free speech thing.

Players have to deal with real time pressure and 11 guys coming at them, you only have to deal with your own internal snarky demons on your couch.
He didn’t deal with anything. He was terrible. You’ve never criticized a player or a coach? Remember now you’re not allowed to do that or you’re trailer park trash and a sucky fan. No one is advocating for death threats for a 19 year old kid. But if you’re getting paid to kick a ball, you can be told you are underachieving.

Save your narcissistic comments for your family. I’m sure they’re conditioned by now. You’re no better a fan than the rest of us.

Please post the memo where God gave you ability to Devine what any player does or does not deal with. It is that level of arrogance that puts class and character in play and creates a need to insure that current and future players know it was not a consensus view of our VOL NATION.

His performance did not provide value add, likewise there is zero value add to multiple free speech expressions and are in play for challenge too.

Pretty sure he and the staff could identify the issues without the depth of crap shared by SOME of our “faithful”. Far more crap than missed kicks. Both are established facts.

Since we are all here to celebrate Max's contribution and wish him success at his future landing spot, the question needing to be answered is who now is our place kicker?

Are we done appreciating yet? Asking for a friend.

Time to grab that NIL shopping cart and go find a guy with 50-yard range and the focus of a lion at "GazelleFest".

;)

He sucked, glad he’s gone
Yep, had lack of value add kicks as a player and needed to move on. Likewise posters whose attacks on a player that had no value add to the program need to move on. In fact it is way easier to show negative impact potential than any positive impact. Bet Coach could figure it out.

Having to apply the “every team has them” defense is never a good sign and BVS is not a justification.

Again, this is a Tennessee football forum on which fans are discussing paid athletes. One could just as easily, and just as stupidly (mind you), say the exact same thing about being happy over winning a game they “really have no vested interest in.”

If this bothers you, I would suggest logging off of the internet.
Well, let’s discuss this flimsy FAN excuse.

Looked it up…..,.

A fan is an enthusiastic supporter, while a fanatic is an extreme, often uncritical, devotee, but "fan" is actually a shortened form of "fanatic," creating a spectrum where a fan is a milder version of a fanatic

SUPPORTER? Really, don’t see any support in cheap shots.

UNCRITICAL DEVOTEE? Another loser for those wanting to claim fandom acting like this,

You guys need to find an accurate replacement to identify a follower of a team that reserves the right to attack without the bounds of class and character.

Acting more like an enemy is a real problem.

Just to be fair to him there were a whole lot of players that contributed a lot more to losing than winning at last you made a lot of relevant kicks. Thank you fella sorry for the immaturity from different boards.
Thanks for the 14 FGs you made. Thanks a lot for the 5 you didn’t.

Please post the memo where I professed my faith or lack thereof. What is arrogant is thinking that kid or any of the staff care about anything we say on this silly board. Why are you even here? You obviously can’t handle opinions or criticisms. That’s about 99.9% of what forum is. You’d be better off deleting the account if it bothers you that bad.

Volnation isn’t about consensus. It’s about group of people who share love for the Vols and each and every one of them lives their fandom differently. Get a grip old man.

Idiotic thread.

OP should’ve known it would devolve into a crap slinging contest instead of appreciation.

I hope Max finds better luck elsewhere. Wish him the best.

We should simply thank the young man for his time here and send him to his new school with our blessings. I hope and pray he does well and if he plays us, I hope and pray we do better.

As for all the other noise, let's not stoop to being lesser fans here. As grandpa used to say, "it's water under the bridge."

Make a kick and he's a hero!

Give me a break...
If a frog had wings.... The reality is he didn't make the kick. Don't want to pile on and liked Gilbert, but for some reason he couldn't make a kick when it counted (UGA, Oklahoma, Ill). Now, I firmly believe had he made the FG in the MC bowl, Illinois would have scored a TD to win it - our defense was not going to stop them. I don't put a loss solely on a kicker, but you are right, had he made those critical kicks he would be loved.
