Shocker.
People always think the next Peyton Manning is sitting on the bench. He's not.
I hate to say it, but Shrout looked very bad. The criticism for him is that while he has a strong arm, he was not very accurate in high school, and was very turnover prone. He showed that this game. Got bailed out of a bad INT by a roughing the passer call. Lots of poor throws. Felt like he got better as he found a groove, though.
Maurer didn't really show much of anything. He scrambled a lot, but didn't complete a pass. Still reminds me of Josh Dobbs as a Freshman a bit. People forget that Dobbs was very bad as a Freshman; he could scramble, but he threw 6 INTs vs 2 TDs, and an INT for every ~ 20 passes. It wasn't till Dobbs was a Sophomore that the game slowed down for him a bit and he felt more like an SEC caliber QB. Maurer has a bright future IMO, but he's just not ready yet.
JG found a groove here. He needs to stop over-thinking. Felt like he found the rhythm this game and quit over-analzying things. Let's hope he continues with that against Florida.
