Maty Mauk gone... Wait.... OK, now he's gone (merged)

You mean the same Mizzou defense that gave up two passing TDs to Arky St? And the same Mizzou D that allowed Towles to go 22/27, 249 and 3 total TDs?

You're right. My bad, I forgot it was incredibly easy to hold UF and UGA to 20 points when you're out on the field 2/3 of the game.

Their defense deserves the credit for the level it's been playing at against the better/higher level teams. Any team doesn't just do that, especially when they have to be out there over 40 minutes each game.

I'm not arguing they're going to win (or really heatedly arguing here either...I think you're mistaking my tone there; perhaps mentioning UT's scores gave off the wrong impression, as though I was criticizing or speaking down of us on purpose). But that defense deserves credit for the level of play its had, especially against ranked opponents.

It also doesn't matter how well they're playing though because that offense is so bad that they might as well be playing with a high school junior varsity team when they have the ball.

Even with an offense so bad that it should be illegal for them to take the field to do anything other than take a knee or punt, they're still - at the moment - 5th in the nation in points allowed, have the 6th lowest points allowed total in the country, 9th in the country in yards allowed per game, 23rd in the country in rushing yards per game allowed, and 11th in the country in passing yards allowed per game.

Their defense is as good as any in the SEC again and he has a playmaker or 2 to work with. The game is at Columbia, Mo. We ain't just showing up and getting a win. Mauk, for whatever reason, plays better vs Tennessee historically than he typically does vs other teams. It's gonna be a challenging game to win, especially if it is a "field goal game"....hopefully Medley doesn't become a significant factor, that's no bueno for the Vols.

What playmakers does he have to work with?

They have no rushing game (their top 2 RBs combine for a combined total of 544 rushing yards on the year). I don't see anyone much established in that passing game both earlier this season while Mauk was still starting or afterwards.

Do they have a better OL they are reinstating also? If not, he may be running for his life the rest of the season.

Im wondering, what did he do to get a four week suspension?

OLine's not so much their issue.

More that they need someone to provide some semblance of a rushing game.

They're averaging less than 100 yards per game (currently ranking them at a glamorous 123rd in the country) and have scored a grand total of....wait for it...2 rushing TDs on the season, tying them for worst in FBS.

Mauk makes our game a little tougher. He is 17-5 as a starter so he knows how to win. I know they have other issues work out but we haven't beaten them in the SEC yet. He has a bye and then then two games that he can play in before us so they can try and figure out how to score by the time we come to town. Vols still win but its now a little close.

Mizzou has a stout defense. If Mauk gets their O scoring points, they'll pick up some Ws that would have been losses. With Mauk back, the Mizzou game probably becomes the toughest challenge left on our schedule.

Their offense was still struggling and having issues when he was out there playing earlier. I fail to see him making too much of a difference.

That is so far from accurate..Here's a few stats on Mauk..in 3 years he is 20-6 as a starter..He is 4-0 as a starter against us and Florida, 2 SEC East Championships and 2 championship game aappearances( losing to AU and Ala),not the best accuracy but completes 53% of his passes, over 4,000 passing yards with 42 Touchdowns and 19 Int's. No he isn't a QB that can take over a game and win it by himself but he isn't expected to. Then you have Drew Lock who is 1-3, he hasn't led a TD drive in 13 quarters, 51% pass completion with 763 yards passing in playing in all 8 of their games, 3 TD's and 3 Int's on the year and career. I might be missing something and please let me know if I am but as a fan and as a player who do you want and trust as your starting QB. I'm going with the guy who is 20-6 as a starter. Jmo though

Mauk didn't start the 2013 SEC Championship, that was James Franklin.

Mauk only started the UT game, the UF game, the South Carolina game, the Kentucky game, and a quarter of the UGA game that year after Franklin had gotten hurt.

this is a streak butch needs to end. a loss to missouri this year is not acceptable matty mauk or not.

matty mauk will more than likely destroy us yet again. so if we lose where does this put you butch believers? to me a loss to missouri this year makes this season a massive failure.

One game does not a season make. No reason to be so negative; that game is a ways off yet; let's concentrate on getting well and beating KY.

Gone are the days of capitalizing people's names, states, and apparently following proper punctuation marks.

Maybe you guys don't realize yet...we are crossing a threshold. This is not the same vols team we saw at the beginning of the year. We are getting our leadership back and our talent is getting great game experience. I'm seeing a WHOLE lot of confidence in this team right now. Remember what we did to iowa last year? That vols team is back...and it's better.

Jesus, are we going to see one of these idiotic threads until the Mizzou game? Mauk coming back changes nothing. Vols win. No difference.

Already counting this as a loss as if 1 player is gonna destroy us. You think he's Superman or something? Get a grip

Have you seen their offense? Mauk makes no difference. Its terrible. Please watch a Mizzou game and get back to us on this one.

As fans i think we should take this Missouri game very serious turn it into a rivalry like Florida and Georgia. Because honestly i couldn't tell you **** about that team, i still fail to pay them much attention or take them serious. I'm not sure if it's because they're relatively new to the SEC or what. Surely Butch and the players will be focused this year and handle business. NOTE: Having M. Sam on their team has probably contributed to my inability to take them serious.

I can't believe they're in the SEC. Have you heard the accents of the general MO population north of the Ozarks? The men sound like effeminate yankees.
