Matt Milton

Hopefully the coaches will check in with the VN faithful to get their advise shortly.
Coaches don't always know what they have, whether it's recruiting or when they leave kids sitting on the bench. Randall Cobb is a good example of that, in recruiting. Fulmer had this kid in his own back yard/pocket...and thought nothing of him. 4-5yrs later, look who is out of a job because his "evaluating prowess" had slipped, among other things. He is making Green Bay much more lethal because even on special teams, he routinely either takes the KR to the house or gives them great field position to start from.

Look at Denarius Moore. How many NFL coaches turned their noses up at him and let him slide all the way to the 5th Rd? 5th Rd is essentially for 3-4th string depth at best, usually. Even Oakland let him slide that far. I bet if they knew then what they know now, they'd have taken him in the first rd.

People talked trash about Tajh Boyd (who Kiffin undervalued and ran off), but is now the starter at Clemson, and that team is on a roll...having beaten both Auburn and FSU. If he was trash I doubt they would be in the driver's seat in the ACC the way they are now.

People say he didn't fit Kiffin's system. What system would that be? The Golden Surfer Boy from California club? Boyd was better than what Kiffin had, period. I think he would have at least been a solid starter for us last year, and perhaps Bray might have beaten him out of job by now, but he would have at least been a better option than Matt Sims.

In fact, Cam Newton didn't fit Golden Boy's "system" either, and look where that got us last year. I was one of those who hoped like crazy that we would get Newton, and we ended up with Sims instead. Newton is now a legit NFL starting QB ALREADY! And Matt Sims will never even see the bench on an NFL squad.

So coaches are indeed fallible in their evaluations sometimes. This might be one of them. Who knows?

I say you might as well throw some balls his way against Buffalo before you get into the heart of the schedule. You need to see what you got. He was doing well during the summer. With Hunter out, we are going to need somebody on the outside. Milton has the most potential to be that guy.

JMO.

I agree, If we don't get Milton out there sooner than later, we are wasting talent. The guy could be a "gamer", but we will never know until he runs some patterns at game speed and we throw him the rock. Buffalo is the best real time "training tool" we have before we get into the meat of the schedule. :superman:

Then why is Rogers playing? He has a very hard time catching the balls that are thrown hard or to a spot example see the Florida game. He has to get out there sometime and this week is as good as any other. Same for Devrin Young.

Exactly, Zach's hands are putrid....almost as putrid as his face.

Fulmer recruited Cobb, just told him the truth.. he would be a WR for us. Cobb wanted to play QB and was given that chance at UK.. rest is history. Phil gets credit for being honest and seeing the obvious. The rest of your post I agree with though, good work.

If the coaches haven't been able to see what Milton has got in his year and a half on campus, then we've got some problems. Milton just isn't cutting it; it's that simple.

ZR is fast, and he's athletic enough to make great plays. Sometimes he does. Trouble is, sometimes he doesn't. If I recall correctly, Denarius Moore was a crap shoot until his junior or senior year. He made some fine catches, but he also dropped passes that went right into his hands. Maybe ZR can tighten up, but I say put him in front of the Passomatic machine until he catches every pass.

I'd rather have a big and athletic guy who cant catch (Milton) over a small and athletic guy who can't catch (ZRogers), at least Milton gives us a chance on the edge. Last pass Zach had to the outside he fell down on his ass spread eagled, just sayin!!!!!!

I agree. It's a no-lose situation; try to get him the ball.

Although, I wouldn't mind seeing Bray throw less than 10 passes this game too. Pound that rock or die trying IMHO.

I would agree with this if Hunter was healthy. Unfortunately we need this game to tune-up both our running and passing game for the remainder of the schedule.

He was a 4* rated athlete out of Florida that is 6'6" and runs a sub 4.5, that's why. He always was, and remains a project. If he ever gets it together, I could almost feel sorry for opposing defenses next year....almost.

Matt is not from Florida, he is from Illinois. Get your facts straight!

I have been saying that since Hunter got injured. Must be some issue with his ability to catch the ball.

What is the VolNation opinion (informed and uninformed) of why Milton hasn't worked out yet? Also, does anyone know anything about Antonio Jones? He seems to be a walk-on JUCO who is listed at 6-4 215 lbs. If they can get either of this guys to step up even a little bit, it would hopefully keep the double teams of D. Rogers.

i hope they start Milton. I'd rather watch any WR play and start over Zac Rogers.....that kid really sucks! terrible!!

They arent starting Milton, Milton is not even listed in the top 5 or 6, they have zach r, vincent dallas, arnett, and neal ahead of him. Obviously something is wrong with Milton. Either he is hurting, doesnt know playbook, or just flat out isnt performing(most likely). This is obvious because they have neal listed in front of him. Neal has caught a total of 7 passes in his career here. So obviously while we all would like to see Milton come out and take over Hunters spot seeing that he is similar size and speed, but he obviously is not quite up to the tast yet. He is young so give him time. Think our best shot is arnett and dallas who have both shown a little something this year. I think we need to find a way to get neal the ball too, he is too fast and talented to ignore. We will get to see a lot of thing from a lot of different receivers saturday. It will be exciting.
