Coaches don't always know what they have, whether it's recruiting or when they leave kids sitting on the bench. Randall Cobb is a good example of that, in recruiting. Fulmer had this kid in his own back yard/pocket...and thought nothing of him. 4-5yrs later, look who is out of a job because his "evaluating prowess" had slipped, among other things. He is making Green Bay much more lethal because even on special teams, he routinely either takes the KR to the house or gives them great field position to start from.Hopefully the coaches will check in with the VN faithful to get their advise shortly.
Look at Denarius Moore. How many NFL coaches turned their noses up at him and let him slide all the way to the 5th Rd? 5th Rd is essentially for 3-4th string depth at best, usually. Even Oakland let him slide that far. I bet if they knew then what they know now, they'd have taken him in the first rd.
People talked trash about Tajh Boyd (who Kiffin undervalued and ran off), but is now the starter at Clemson, and that team is on a roll...having beaten both Auburn and FSU. If he was trash I doubt they would be in the driver's seat in the ACC the way they are now.
People say he didn't fit Kiffin's system. What system would that be? The Golden Surfer Boy from California club? Boyd was better than what Kiffin had, period. I think he would have at least been a solid starter for us last year, and perhaps Bray might have beaten him out of job by now, but he would have at least been a better option than Matt Sims.
In fact, Cam Newton didn't fit Golden Boy's "system" either, and look where that got us last year. I was one of those who hoped like crazy that we would get Newton, and we ended up with Sims instead. Newton is now a legit NFL starting QB ALREADY! And Matt Sims will never even see the bench on an NFL squad.
So coaches are indeed fallible in their evaluations sometimes. This might be one of them. Who knows?
