I always hear about Matt Milton being so good but I never hear about him getting playing time. Zach Rogers is hurt. Why couldnt Milton come in & be the 3rd WR instead of Dallas or Arnett. I know Milton is backup to Hunters or Rogers. Can he just not play the slot or what?

I say put hunter/rogers/milton on the field at the same time. Rogers is very skinny, and they got him goin over the middle to SEC LB's

He's just not a slot receiver. Slot guys are usually smaller quicker receivers that can get off the ball fast and find holes in the denfense.

When we get inside the red zone, I see Matt getting a lot of PT, and a lot of TD's!!

That would be like taking a guard and putting him at tackle. Or taking a de and putting him at nt. Completely different position. And he is not a tweener. (i.e., someone you could move from guard to tackle or y to x in a pro offense.) Pretty sure you can google a pro offense and see what I mean

If we went with that concept then we could move Marlin Lane to defensive tackle. Real football isn't like XBox

i disagree. im bein realistic. theres 32 nfl teams and 117 ncaa teams. im sure not every team has a short slot wr. i think he would do fine. out of Swain/Meachem/Smith, none of them guys was short, everyone of them guys played slot at some point

I am not sure MM will ever make a significant contribution. He does not seem to have good hands. He also has not shown the ability to use his size well. He was a bit of a gamble coming out of HS. He played QB IIRC taking direct snaps in a spread O. He always projected as WR though... but he has to actually learn to be one.

I hope he works out but am not confident he will.

No you aren't. And what does the number of nfl vs ncaa teams have to do with anything?

Bottom line: Milton is not a slot receiver, I don't care if he is 5'2. He's a tall, possession receiver. Slot receivers run different routes, are quicker, usually smaller guys that do different things. He plays a different position. It really isn't that complicated.

Also, Swain/Meachem/Smith were all WR's too. None of them played slot. We ran a lot of 4 and 5 WR sets when we had those guys.

And what are you basing that on? He's had a great offseason and he hardly saw the field last year.

if all 3 of them were on the field at the same time, only 2 of the 3 can play outside at a time. SOMEBODY had to play slot. i remember meachem playin slot some

I recall David Martin being used as a 3rd down possession receiver who liked to work the middle. Pretty big dude. NFL tight end.

We will see Neal in the slot.

Exactly. You want your slot receiver to be a quick guy who can get to an open spot underneath fast and make some yardage after the catch. Not a tall possession receiver.
