Stepped in and stabilized a Ole Miss program that was reeling from NCAA sanctions and probation and did a pretty good job. Would he be a realistic and good candidate for us to hire ?

I thought of him earlier. He did ok with the mess he came into at ole miss. Don’t think we should hire him as head coach but he could surely give insight into the future of ut.

Let’s face it. We will end up w someone to stabilize the program for three yrs them replace him w someone else- the unending vicious circle.

I don’t think so. The parallel to draw from that scenario would be letting Steele be interim for a season, not hiring Luke. And I’m not saying I agree with letting Steele be interim for a season, just saying that would be the apples to apples equivalent.

This is probably what is going to happen with Kevin Steele and Tennessee

Luke is a great O line coach, a great recruiter, and a great person. His players love him. He would be a good option.
Exactly he’s a players coach those guys at ole miss played hard for him you could tell and he is a good recruiter he snagged some good talent at ole miss even with being on probation.

I don't think Luke could do that at Tennessee like he did at Ole Miss. He was a Mississippi boy through and through. He knew the program, boosters, players, etc, very well. Ole Miss was his dream job and he loved it. He put everything he had into that stint as head coach. I don't know that I believe he could repeat that anywhere else.

Yeah no, not unless you’ve burned through a long list... at that point Steele is still probably a better option with better contacts.

Matt Luke is acceptable but Bill O’Brien isn’t? The logic of this board

Seriously - at this point you guys are just pulling losing crappy coaching names out of a losing crappy coaching hat - and posting it on here to piss me off. There is really no longer any other rational reason for the list of clowns that constantly get rollled out on here.

I think Freak needs to have a section for off beat, obscure, losing coaches that are suggested on here along with who it was that suggested it. I am pretty sure that is the logic that brought us Derek Dooley.

Matt Luke ..... is he that guy that couldn't recruit and/or field a decent respectable team at Ole Miss .... of course - sounds perfect to me.
