Matt Campbell would work for us

I have no idea who we end up with. Currie has been really good at keeping everything quiet. I just can't see Schiano, but that isn't based on any knowledge. It would just be all time stupid.

Exactly it could very well be someone from way left field. Currie has done an excellent job of keeping this quiet. We can only hope does as good of a job with the hire. He could have established a relationship while at K State that is coming into play we neve know.

SECcountry talking heads said a new coach could/should be announced by Sunday...guess we'll see one way or the other...early signing period coming up so it's gotta be soon...whomever it is...and,

GO VOLS...BEAT VANDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If true, one would think it's not a guy preparing his team for a CCG, like Frost, Norvell, Kiffin, Venables etc

This is sounding more and more like we end up with Schiano which to me is absolutely awful. Throw big money around and land that guy??? Ridiculous

Look at his record.......terrible. The only guy to flame quicker than Chip K in the NFL was this clown. The few yrs that Rutgers was acceptable was while they were still in the Big East.

He.is from the north and will struggle to recruit FL and GA.

This would be a terrible hire. Fire Currie along w Schitiano in 4 yrs. They will be tied together at the hip if this happens.

If they slide down to Schiano on the list I would rather they just go after Jim Leavitt.

He actually did build a program from the ground up, has less dirt on him than Schiano, and can actually recruit FL. Much better overall record than Schiano as well.

Why? What's so bad about Schiano? Serious question--I don't know too much about him, except he did great at Rutgers, has been considered for several big time jobs, he's turned several opportunities down, and Urban Meyer loves him.

Is it because he failed in the NFL (hello a lot of other successful HC's)?[/QUOTE

If we are going the DC route.....Venebles would be MUCH better; or keep Shoop over spending big $ on this steaming pant load.

Schiano apparently is a real jerk off. Wasn't liked by coaches in the NFL and NFL scouts would say how bad they hated to go to Rutgers to check out players because of him. Perhaps he's changed with time but I think UT could do a lot better than this guy. Currie can't say money won't be an issue and end up hiring Schiano.

Greg Schiano loses Tampa Bay Buccaneers with autocratic style - NFL.com

Greg Schiano considered a bully, hypocrite by NFL front office officials, coaches, report says | NJ.com

How ex-Tampa Bay Bucs coach Greg Schiano is preparing for his next job | SI.com

Schiano is a tool of the highest order according to almost everyone that has worked with him.

And I don't doubt that Meyer has been talking him up just so he won't have to fire him after the season over that Iowa debacle.

Said it yesterday on here that I figured the buyout would be too much for the Vols brain trust to pony up for Campbell.

And I'll say it again here this morning, if they are eyeballing Schiano, they just need to get Jim Leavitt from Oregon instead.

Rather go the unproven coordinator route instead of Schiano if that is how far down the list we are at the moment.

Please NO! We are jumping in too fast. We need an established coach that can make it at the SEC level. It is so different coaching at as big of a program as UT. Expectations are out the roof. Ask Butch. He couldn't handle this big of a program!

I don't understand the love for Campbell, does he even try to run the ball? they are something like 110 in the country at it and in the sec its like 80% of the teams that rush for the most yards win. I really don't want him but some of you may have really looked into him so I would really like to hear why?

Kareem Hunt rushed for 1600 yards as a sophomore for Campbell at Toledo. His first season at Iowa State had 3 with over 500. This season they have a 1000 yard rusher with two games (regular and bowl) to go. He likes to run the football.

Do you even follow college football?

He spotted Hunt for KC Chiefs. He also grabbed Montgomery while at Iowa State. If I recall correctly Montgomery has graded out as the nation’s top running back.

The previous coach at Iowa State left him with nothing on the Oline. I think their starting senior guard was a defensive tackle until this summer and the other guard is a true sophomore in his first year after transferring from a juco. He had no scholarships out of high school. Their right tackle is a redshirt freshman and their center a sophomore.

Campbell might turn out to be a great coach, but his resume at this time is checkered, and the white blocks are spotted. That is my way if saying that he has not done nearly enough to be elevated into our situation, especially for a boatload of money.

You left out that he coached at Penn State and is linked to the Sandusky scandal by sworn court testimony.

Yep. If Currie is to be believed, no one in the media knows what's going with the UT search. Until we announce the guy, all the pundits are speculating.

I believe no one in the media knows, there all giving conflicting reports from “sources “
