I'm going to bump this. I think this would be a great hire. What he's doing just 1 year into a TOUGH job at Iowa State is very impressive.
I know he's got a large buyout, but like what has been said before, that kind of stuff can be worked with/around.
The main knock on Campbell is he has two great......GREAT wins.......but not really anything else.
He is young.....which is a plus
He will have 2 years P5 exp......plus
He seems to be motivated and a motivator....plus
He steps up to the challenge.....plus
He doesn't have a great coaching resume
He hasn't coached under the greats
6 seasons as a HC and only 1 good one.....9-2 at Toledo
You never want to hire a coach based off of one game.....or even two. He has not coached anywhere that has mattered.....ever even as a GA (MT Union is great but division 3). There is just no substance there. Sure he might become a great coach.....but for now there is nothing there.
Nick Saban didn't coach under any greats at Toledo or have a great resume while there, things worked out pretty well for him. Same thing with Urban Meyer when he coached at another Mac School. No substance on their resumes, both national championship winners. Your points are absolutely ridiculous.
Maybe just maybe you might want to know what you are talking about before trying to undermine someone else's points.
Saban coached for 27 years before going to LSU, he also coached at 4 power schools before becoming the HC at Mich ST. Saban also coached for the Huston Oilers & the Browns.........that is a powerful resume.....not to mention everyone knew he was a great D coach.
Urban learned at Ohio ST & coached at Notre Dame. Urban was 8-3 & 9-3 at BG. Then at Utah he went 10-2 and 12-0 finishing #4 in the country at.........Utah........not to mention he had a great offense.
WOW
You come at me with a fallacy.......but no matter I turn that fallacy on its head.
Name one big time coach that didn't start at a small program or as a coordinator and start off with a not so impressive resume? Please educate me with your infinite wisdom
2 years into.....but no matter really.
Just explain why he would be a good hire for Tennessee.
Where has he been, what has he done, who has he learned from, does he have some great or unique D or O? Give us something......and I know he has two great wins......but that is only 2 games and out of 6 seasons as a HC.
Those 2 wins are absolutely better than anything Dan Mullen has done. This guy, in his short career, has made each school better than before. And Iowa State is a worse job than Mississippi State. Not quite a year? I get concern. But this guy is a rock star. We need a guy who can win, not just win the press conference.
