Exactly. If they didn't want to pay a big buyout to Campbell after Butch's buyout. Now tag on whatever Schianos settlement will cost and whatever the Athletic Department was willing to spend just got knocked down some more.

Campbell would be more foolish than Currie to accept an offer to coach in Knoxville. He's going to stay put in Ames. Patterson is probably relieved he signed an extension at TCU as well rather than jump in this meltdown.

They shied away from him because of his buyout and now they will likely have to settle on some buyout for Schiano. They certainly won't pony up the $9M buyout for Campbell.

There was nothing in that article saying he turned us down. It could have just as easily read that we wouldn't make the call because of his buyout so he definitely wasn't ever interviewed or offered to even say no.

Even still, if Campbell doesn’t get an extension and a raise in the next few weeks, he assured recruits and Cyclone Nation that he’s in Ames to stay.

“We’re here for the long haul, we’re going to build this thing the right way and we’re going to do it with those guys,” Campbell said.

Yeah but that was when Florida was reported to closing with Chip Kelly. Everyone knew he was going to Florida if offered. Plus, Campbell has no ties to us, unlike Mullen and the Gators, and their dumpster fire doesn’t involve fan backlash forcing the AD to rescind an agreement (deserved or not).
