Matt Cambell Interviewed (RUMOR)

I'm sure you folks know that no hard factual news will come out until after the vandy game. I asure you interviews have been done and maybe one more to do. The coach to be hired will not tell his players until after the last game of regular season and will probably not coach the bowl game. That being said the new coach should be in his office at TN by Dec.8th. Things are fluid but moving along well. Not trying to hurt any feelings but Gruden will not be the coach.

Campbell's buyout is $9,575,000 which isn't too bad when you look at the likes of Saban's $26,900,000; Harbaugh's $20,555,000; Meyer's $21,345,000; and Petrino's $13,943,750. Jumbo Fisher's name has been floated around a lot as a UT candidate... his buyout is only $39,312,500. So, if we have to pay Matt Campbell's $9.6M, it might prove to be a great value IF he comes in and coaches up to his potential. He learned from one of the very best at Mount Union, but he still has a lot to learn... and given time he will grow into a great coach, I believe.

Your numbers are wrong. You're looking at the buyout the school pays if they fire the coach not the amount repaid to the school if the coach takes another job. Fisher's is considerably lower than 40 million; it's like 6-8 million iirc.

I worry about a former Big12 AD hiring a coach from the Big12. I don't want a pass happy no defense playing team to be developed.

Campbell has done a good job at a place that is hard to win at historically.

"GOOD" job or do you mean "GREAT" job, as you must have forgot he beat 2 TOP 5 teams this year and 1 was on the road..........winning at IOWA State is like winning at VANDERBILT..........if you can win at those two schools, just imagine what you can do with more resources ala Penn St and Tennessee

Purdue is still fighting for bowl eligibility in week 13 (5-6).... If we’re gonna hire a 6-6 Big 10 coach we might as well have kept Butch.

Brohm took a team that was 9-39 in the previous four seasons and has a shot at finishing 6-6 in year one.

I'd take Matt Campbell. He's a rising star! Please don't let our bad experience with Dooley and Butch sour you on this guy just because he's at Iowa State! Butch and Dooley never took Iowa State with a 3rd string QB and beat Oklahoma at Oklahoma!

Hiring Matt Campbell feels like hiring some guy who won the lottery to be my financial advisor based on his success in creating a return.

People on here fail to realize that there are a lot of places to coach that are just as good or better than U.T.
