Mathews: Expect Fulmer to hire a defense guy as head coach

I guess he could be Schiano'd too. :)

The exact reason that not many coaches will want to come here. I agree that our administration and the major boosters are crap. But having the fans crap on hires will end up making us the Vandy of this conference permanently.

Your reputation proceeds you.

Ironically CPF had the number one ranked total defense in the conference the year he got fired. It was ranked #3 nationally. His offense was next to last in the conference that year and 5th from last nationally. Our offense was ranked 6th from last this year nationally and last in the conference. Defense wasn't much better at 10th in the conference and 82nd nationally.

Gary Patterson is a good defensive coach AND a good offensive coach. The year CPF was fired CGP had the #1 Defense in the Nation and #24 offense in the nation. This year he had the #19 defense and #52 offense.

Gary Patterson looks like a pretty good candidate to me. jmo.

he does...but why would he leave TCU? he has a program that he has gotten to the point where he competes for championships and can recruit in the state of texas. and he gets paid pretty well already. i just dont see him happening

I don't listen to Matthews, but based soley's on Freak's narrative, Fulmer is going to go after a defensive coach, but the major emphasis is going to be on offensive strategy. Sounds exactly why I don't listen to Matthews. Pure conjecture that literally contradicts himself.

Thats because he is a punk

I stood in line to get a signature from him during the Spring Game in 2009

He didn't say 2 words to any of the fans waiting in his line. He acted like he was above all of us. No smile, nod of the head, or thanks for your support...nothing

Glad to know you’ve always been mature in your entire adult life. It’s apparent Kiffin has matured. And don’t even bring up the social media stuff. That’s for recruiting and student fan base.

Love the Holier than Thou crowd.

TOS is claiming that Matthews also said "Anyone who thinks The Punk [Kiffin] will get a call from Fulmer is out of their mind." I didn't listen so I don't know.

Yep...you got to listen to Doug. He knows Phil and he did say the “punk” Kiffin would not be returning to Tennessee. Sort of hypocritical of Phil if he thought that way. Since they let him back in after falling asleep at the coaching wheel his last couple years. I don’t recall a defensive mind coach being Phil’s priority. That would leave Tee out.

Everyone, and I mean everyone, was calling Steele a re-tread just two years ago. In fact, people were still referencing that beat down he received from WVU back in 2011. We all laughed at Auburn when they hired him and we got Shoop.

Now suddenly, because he beat Bama once, he's being thrown around as a legitimate choice for DC and maybe even as HC.

My God have we fallen.

Edit: just realized I didn't actually quote the poster that brought up Steele. My bad, didn't want this to seem as if it came out of left field.

Next year could really be another tough season on offense if go to a more traditional offense. We don't have the lineman, tight ends, or fullback to be successful.
