No I get it. I know people aren’t diminishing when they don’t view them similarThey’re both incredibly evil. My intent is not to diminish one vs the other.
Racists/Bigots target black people, or Hispanics, or LGBT - which is horrific.
Islamic terrorists target America - which is perceived differently by John Q. American imo.
No they’re both incredibly evil, neither more benign in any way.No I get it. I know people aren’t diminishing when they don’t view them similar
So what about Dylan roof that wanted to start a race war and believed the white genocide theory, Pitt synagogue and Buffalo shooting both saying the white genocide and Great replacement theory is inspiration for the attack. Those are just of the top of my head. Of course these could be exception to the rule but that’s political and goes beyond just hating a minority imo
I view targeting innocent people as the worst evil someone could commit. So that plays a part in my opinion
As an America-hating Marxist, @NorthDallas40 is ineligible to receive an award from the governing body of America's Game. But is it from FIFA?
It’s a result of propaganda put out post-911 IMO. When people who lived through that era hear “terrorist”, it was hammered into America’s head what that really meant. It’s a classic dog whistle now. If we are using the classic definition, there is no distinction between the two, but I get what you’re saying about the context in this country (and others).I’m saying what the average American likely views as terrorism.
I don’t think on average they view a racist attack by a crazy conspiracy theorist as an example of classic terrorism.
They both meet the criteria of terrorism. It’s a result of propaganda put out post-911 IMO. I don't think OKC targeted America in general. It was directed at ATF. 911 was more general but aimed at finance and military. They both meet the criteria of terrorism.
One targets a specific minority group. Others like OKC & 9/11 indiscriminately target America in general. That’s where the difference in perception is rooted imo.
The recent failed bombing in NYC - one of the perpetrators launches his attack right over the back of someone advocating that Islamophobia has no place here… just an indiscriminate (attempted) attack of terror.
your average right winger does not share the same ideology as say a white supremacist. Continue to move the goalposts from my original comment tho
Nobody said right wingers are extreme or compared Muslims to right wingers
OKC was more targeted than 9/11, but was still a broad, blanket attack against the US Government. They had zero concern for the race, creed, color, or religion of the people in that building.I don't think OKC targeted America in general. It was directed at ATF. 911 was more general but aimed at finance and military.
I agree with the aboveMurdering the insurance CEO on the street for everyone to see was terrorism. An attack intending to spread fear. Yet a significant portion of Leftists in this country celebrated it. SM groups were made in his name to talk about how cool and handsome he was by Liberals.
Charlie Kirks murder was terrorism. Murdering a prominent member of both the Republican Party and Christian Church on national TV. It was again a Leftist "trans" person trying to spread fear. It was celebrated by the Left and joyfully gloated about here on this site by people trying to justify his murder directly in front of his wife and small children. "...but he said mean things about black people because he was a racist". Ad nauseum.
Nobody celebrated the attack in Buffalo. The Right doesn't celebrate when someone sharing some of their opinions kills innocent people. We condemn them publicly. The Left cant say the same. Neither can muslims for that matter. There were shots on the news of the public celebrations across the Muslim world when 9.11 happened. " Death to America" etc.
We are not the same.
You’re literally the one who brought up the entire Muslim population…How are you incapable of understanding that?
Instead of comparing the size of all right wingers to the size of all Muslims, you’re wanting to intentionally skew the data.
It’s nonsense to count the full US Muslim population of 1% and then try to compare that to number you can’t even quantify of “right wing extremism”.
The only possible valid reason you could make for such a comparison would be to admit that you consider all Muslims to be extremists in which case you’re conceding.
