Mashack and Dubar tonight

Dubar really struggled last night...the worst he has looked for us imo. Hopefully he learns from it and comes back better going forward.
He did. And CLEARLY Rick did not want him taking that shot that early in the clock especially just coming off the bench....and the foul he committed was inexcusable for Rick as well.

Horrible. Mayshack should be released. His d is all he's got. If that's Barnes thinks that's enough. He needs to evolve again
This might be the stupidest comment ever. He is probably the best defensive player in America. Getting points from
him is just good gravy, he is a vital part of this team. GBO

Agreed! Every team in the NCAA would do anything to have a player with the total team concept and character as “Shack”! He’s a coaches dream!!

It probably wouldn't have matter if he hit it.
I've seen Barnes pull him even when he's hit a shot. As far as the 3-point shot foul, just about everybody on the team has done it this year.
Difference is, other players have had the opportunity to play through their mistakes.

Personally, I think Igor should sit a little more when he's playing crappy (which has been more than some want to admit). Don't get me wrong, I really like the guy and he does contribute quite a bit in rebounds and D every game.
At some point tho, we gong to need Dubar going into the post season.
I'm afraid when that time comes ( and it is when not if), he's not going to be ready, either.
I hope the fact he hasn't been able to play a meaningful role this year doesn't come back to bite us. We are very thin in respect to depth.

Igor’s rebounding alone will keep him on the floor. He’s a proven shooter….hopefully he’ll catch fire soon.

Maybe/Probably. Those 2 he got tonight certainly isn't getting it done. If he's going to "do the little things" everyone talks about he needs to freaking do them.
As far as "proven shooter", not sure about that either. I mean every time I bring up Dubar’s percentages before he came to Tennessee nobody wants to count them.

Igor hasn't exactly proven anything in respect to shooting since being here at Tennessee ( other than proving he is not a good 3-point shooter) After tonight, he probably around 25%. That's not going to cut it if we plan on making a run in the tourney this year.
Dubar is actually shooting a better percentage than him this year at almost 30%.

I know one thing, we still haven't won a road SEC game without Dubar giving us some meaningful points.

Mashack’s foul in the wild 3 was the difference in the game, as far as point spread. Of course, we’re not in that position without his lockdown D and he had a couple nice buckets last night too. I’ll take the Shack we saw last night every game. If we play with that intensity there’s not a game left we can’t win and that includes in the Dance.

IMO, that should have been a foul on Mazara who kicked his legs out into Mashack, flailed his arms after the shot into Mashack, and went down like he’d been mugged. Would make a European soccer player proud.

I think Igor might not be adjusted to the level of athlete/defenses he's facing now. Will/can he make the adjustment? How long will it take? Honestly, I think the best thing for Igor is to get Phillips healthy and start him. Take the pressure off Igor by bringing him off the bench. In an ideal world, we could be playing Estrella at the 4 at times. That injury was a real blow to this roster.

Yeah…see his time playing before coming to Vols. And read every comment by Barnes about Igor’s ability to shoot the ball. Just guessing but Rick would know. Igor is going to be on the floor for Vols. Hopefully he’ll start shooting with consistency soon.

It is maddening but, as you pointed out, there's a reason why our 3-pt D is so good statistically speaking - I guess we have to accept this will continue to happen to some degree.

While I agree Auburn flopped around like a bunch of fish that was definitely a foul.

I didn’t quite say that. I’m just saying we didn’t lose because of that foul. Point-wise it was the difference but so were other plays. Auburn doesn’t get lucky and have that block go right back to Broome and odds are we win that game. Broome had good hands, made a good pass and the kid hit a huge shot so kudos to them but it started with luck. That was a terrible foul by Mashack. There was about a 5% chance that kid makes that wild shot. You have to let that one go and if he hits it then ok.

I've been one of the biggest proponents to play Dubar more but I'm over it. He's a bust and/or our evaluation of him as a transfer was poor. Probably a bit of both. He needed more minutes earlier in the season but for whatever reason didn't earn them. Boswell isn't anywhere close to be being prepared to play and perhaps will in time turn into a different version of Mashack, as he can't play PG at this level. Thus, we are down to 7 players in the rotation. If Estrella was available and Carr not transferred out, we undoubtedly would be one of the best teams in the country. Lack of depth caps our ceiling in this group, unfortunately.

Igor did not have a very good game in any phase of his playing last night. If he had played anywhere his potential in scoring or rebounding, we would have won be 10 points. Probably his worst game as a VOL. I realize we were playing the #1 ranked team in their gym, but we were out talented at the 4 and f5 positions last night. Part of that was because of our injury at the 5.

Gotcha...100% agree. We had a lot of opportunities to win that game

Only one Vol had what I’d say got close to “a good night” and of course that was ZZ ( of course he struggled from 3 pt like every single player on both teams did). Most of that of course was Auburns defense too. Igor does so much away from the ball. He will be on the floor for the Vols regardless of what Volnation thinks about him. Hopefully his shooting catches fire soon at a great time. The rest of the season should be exciting. Buckle up Volnation…it’ll be a bumpy ride!

Agree....We have some transfers that aren't SEC level.

Igor has a ton of potential, however, he is very inconsistent and timid on offense most of the t9me. nHe is limited going to hi l3ft and often can not finish in the paint. he needs to get "mean" when he has the ball and blocking out. I really ;ike his play when he is not intimidated. I have seen him make strong moves and score as well as rebounding under the basket. Problem ids, he does not that as often as he needs to. If he could/would play to his potential, we would have an excellent chance to make the final four. If he doesn't, our chances are slim.

I'4. Agreei.

Dubar showed he is as good as anyone else on this team tonight. He needs to have a bigger role going forward.
He started out taking to the hole( what we needed to do) and then he gets pulled.
We need to get back to basics and look to take it to the rack every time down. 3 point shooting is not our strong suit.

You keep trying to tote Dubar’s water all season. Numbers don’t lie as he shot 1-7 from 3 tonight. Maybe you could say while he shot terrible tonight but so did a several of his teammates? We’re obviously struggling for anyone to make a shot at times so maybe Dubar is showing something in practice to make Barnes give him some more run but to date he’s not delivering.
