If they do go to a 6-3 format I hope ours are Vandy, UAT and UK. Obviously would be an advantage for us with UK and Vandy, so doubt they would. UAT and Vandy would be locks, who would the third team be? Who would you prefer?

UGA would have UF and Auburn so probably leaves them out.

UF would have UGA and LSU so probably not them

Texas would have A&M and Arky.

Ole Miss and South Carolina might be most likely.

Per Marvin W:
“Is Tennessee-Alabama a really big deal? For perspective, consider this famous quote from TV personality Beano Cook: “Don’t die on the third Saturday in October. The preacher may not show up.””
If a 9 game conference schedule is needed to keep this rivalry going, then full steam ahead. Not playing Bama every year is unthinkable…

Get ready for the hard asses that say our guaranteed 3 should be Bama, UGA and UF.

I have a bad feeling that we're going to lose TSIO every year.

The coaches are a hard no on moving to nine and they carry a lot of clout. I'm sure it's still possible, but it's clear the coaches and some ADs have swayed Sankey, who once favored the nine game slate.

If SEC and BIG become an NFL lite super league some day it's going to happen anyway. Agree with some of you others that it's not fun to watch tradition and rivalry be cast aside to fatten those bankrolls more.

I’d be in favor of the 9th game being a BIG10 team that rotates each year. I’d like an Ohio State rematch, or Michigan, or Penn State in Neyland. Plus we’d get a chance to play in some of their stadiums.

You know University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa.

The 3rd highest rated academically in the state of Alabama behind Auburn and UAB.:)
I honestly and sincerely doubt Bama ranks that high. lol.

I mean, just in the letter S, there are Samford, Stillman, and Spring Hill. I'm betting at least two of those also outrank Alabama academically. Heh.

Go Vols!

With a rotating 8 game schedule, every member school could complete home & away with every other member school. Traditional rivals not scheduled by the conference could elect to use one of their four other slots to accommodate annual rivalry games. If and how these games might be considered in conference tie-breaker scenarios would need to be hashed out. The deepest annual rivalries in the SEC are Auburn - Georgia, Tennessee - Alabama, Texas - Oklahoma, and Ole Miss - Miss State. There have been interruptions in Tennessee -Vanderbilt, Tennessee - Kentucky, Georgia - Florida, and Alabama - Auburn.

Manufacturing artificial annual rivalries to accommodate those few with long histories isn’t the answer. The SEC needs to figure out its priorities and schedule accordingly. If it most values all member schools having home and away within student athletes’ four year cycle of eligibility, then it’s going to have to go with a rotating schedule. If it wants annual rivalries between set pairings, it’s going to have to create some to make it work for all members. Which are must haves, and which can be relegated to rotational play? Force the issue with the ADs.

This is almost a certain for those of us who really came into Vol football during and after the split in ‘92.

Before then it was basically Bama but, UGA and Auburn were huge SEC games and I do remember those.

The only team I enjoy beating more than Florida is Alabama. I'd like to keep those two. Couldn't care less about playing Georgia every year, outside of the whole "if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best"thing. I hate Alabama and Florida with the heat of a million suns, though. There was a time when the third game of the season , UT vs. Florida, determined which of those teams was going to the SEC championship game, and thus would play for a natty. In the event we go to a nine game conference schedule, I think it's most likely that our three every-year matchups are Kentucky, Vandy, and Alabama.

P.S. Bring back the Beer Barrel for the Tennessee-Kentucky game, ffs.

CFB is so stupid. They’ve killed several of the all time great rivalries. I wouldn’t be surprised to see TN-Al, Ga-Aub etc go.

The NFL had enough sense to keep their big rivalries with divisions like Dallas-Wash, Oakland-KC, GB-Chic. NY-Phil.

In this scenario look at Auburn…Bama & UGA every year and probably a MS school. No way they give Bama UT, Auburn & LSU.

I don’t know how you fairly divvy this up.

Yes. Give us Bama, UK, and Vandy every year. UF and UGA every other year.

I would guess that Bama would have Auburn, UT and probably Miss St.

LSU might get UF, Arkansas and Ole Miss, but I would love to see the LSU vs Auburn game comeback annually, but they couldn’t do that Auburn. That was always an exciting game. They could put Texas A&M with LSU also. The SEC seems like they really want to make that a thing.
