Obviously any entertainment is subjective to the viewer but as far as I can tell their treatment of Galactus is being universally lauded.Just saw First Steps and it was FANTASTIC. Really enjoyed the chemistry between the family in this film. Easily the best F4 movie and one of the better Marvel movies in recent years. This felt more like a Phase 1 film where it doesn’t necessarily feel like a linear setup for the next Marvel movie, there are multiple ways they can go. It really does feel like its own self contained film, which I appreciate. I have really enjoyed the past 2 movies including Thunderbolts. If you have the opportunity, definitely see this one in IMAX. They did such a phenomenal job in capturing Galactus’ scale compared to the rest of the environment. The movie was visually stunning, the best one has looked in awhile imo. Made me even more excited for what the Avengers movies have in store for us over the next couple of years.
Glad you enjoyed it. I’m not into the debate of comparing these movies either. If you love superheroes then it shouldn’t even be a discussion. Just go see them for the pure enjoyment. Both of these directors had a clear vision and executed them. This has been the best 3-movie stretch in the superhero genre in awhile. Thunderbolts, Superman, and now F4. It feels like we are back on the uptick and I really enjoyed being in full movie theaters again. They were all fun times.I was grinning from the start. The tone and retro-futurist style set the stage perfectly, and the pacing pulls you right into this alt-MCU universe.
The team feels like a real family. Reed and Sue share leadership, with Johnny and Ben holding their own. Reed is smart but warm, Sue is the emotional core (and finally treated with respect), Johnny is mature yet energetic, and Ben is pure heart—with a fun Kirby-inspired beard.
Silver Surfer:
I wanted Norrin Radd of course—but Shalla Bal works for this story. She just does. Her scenes are visually stunning, and the change makes sense once you see it.
Galactus:
Massive, majestic, and voiced perfectly. His motivation adds depth, though he could’ve been a bit more purple.
Visuals:
Gorgeous overall—especially space scenes. The Thing looks great, Sue’s powers sparkle, Reed’s stretching is smartly done, and Johnny’s look nods to his comic roots. A few rough spots, but what movie not called Avatar doesn’t have some?
Better than Superman? Doesn’t matter. They’re both fantastic.
Go see them.
I haven't seen it yet but I will. The boldened is what I've been hearing even from sources that have been pretty down on the majority of the MUC's offerings over the last several years. That's the sort of people where if you can get them on board you've done something right.Watched F4 earlier today. Better than expected. Definitely an Imax watch
