Martin staying, officially. Statements from Hart and Martin.

I assume you know the poster you are responding to has already announced he is pro Martin, Martin first and UT as an afterthought? And who has an agenda? People on both ends of the spectrum.

Yes, I am pro Martin, but I don't believe all of the independent news outlets reporting that he withdrew his name are also pro Martin.

Although CCM will never read this and there is no point in saying it, but I wish him the best as he continues to lead our hoops program. I bet he just stopped what he was doing, and smiled briefly, with no idea why he did it.

you watch way too much lifetime channel lol

If I was me, all else being equal, I think I'd hire Cuonzo over Wojo.
One has taken a team to the Sweet Sixteen (very nearly to the Elite Eight) and the other hasn't (at least not yet).
But, Marquette also let Tyler Summitt go to La. Tech.
Maybe they're just not very smart.

Well, let me say this about that. History has proven how reliable media reports are:

But why jump right out and disbelieve the media reports without any obvious reason to do so? The guys who reported that Martin withdrew himself are the same ones who reported that he was a candidate and then had interviewed in the first place. Is it possible that they've been misled by people in Martin's camp who want to make him look better? Of course. But there's no reason to just assume those reporters were right about everything else in the story and were suddenly wrong about that -- unless of course you've got an axe to grind.

Sounds an awful lot like Hart is placing winning pretty far down his list of priorities. I mean, not cheating is important, but I would've hoped that he'd be setting the bar a little higher than "upper echelon of SEC" and "in contention for a bid".

That's typical for tenn hires. Good news he will only be here for one more year, bad news they are about to redo the contract so they will have to be paying on that for a few years

Or Martin took his name out of the running after speaking with Hart and Marquette went with plan B, which is pretty much what everyone is reporting other than a certain group of people on VN.

That "certain group of people" is CERTAINLY larger than you're acknowledging :pilot:

I found this to be thread worthy and wanted to post it for those who may not see it in the other thread.

HART

“...We have high standards and expectations for continued improvement and results in every sport in our program. Having said that, our strong finishes within the conference the past three years, prioritizing academics, representing the University with class and operating within the parameters dictated by the University of Tennessee and the NCAA matters greatly. Additionally, the social culture of the men’s basketball program has vastly improved under Cuonzo’s leadership..."

Cuonzo Martin to remain at UT, official statements - VolNation Blog

I'm not taking a pro-CBP or anti-CBP stance here, but I think that the bolded statements above should be taken by the BBB crowd as definitive statements by the University of Tennessee that UT will NOT be bringing back Bruce as coach. These are very much before-and-after statements, and I don't see any way to wiggle out of it.

Sounds to me like the Good Ship Bruce has sailed, and it's time to move on. :hi:

Next year is going to be good. All this is settle, so now we can turn our focus onto things that matter. We will have a CCM team on the court with some experience. If he can take some of his recruits and turn them into half the players of Josh Richardson, we will be fine.

Hubbs is healthy, if Stokes Stays, Rhett comes plays, Austin a lock down defender, Thompson and the 3 Wise Men come around along with a few others it could have some, stuffing crow down there throats.

Best thing about this is that it puts us in a drama free zone with a few exceptions. Zero Pearls in Knoxville, all of his players are gone. Maybe an addition to staff or a change.

Bottom line CCM is a stable force, good man, class act. and now has 6 seasons under his belt. Next years SEC schedule works to our favor and the pressure has lessened.

We get our two years to see him as a coach without any distractions.

If Zo is the coach...that's what it is. I'll be pulling for those kids that wear the orange. We'll see...this one's for Zo and the boys representin'!. :salute:
GO VOLS!

Ok, so now we can officially go back to the 'bash CCM posts'. Glad that didn't take long. I noticed our traffic has been down since Sunday.

Yea! I'll bash him. He carried Coach Pearl's "good" recruits to the NIT every year until this one. We had some transfers and jc players and things clicked at the right time. Personally I was hoping for a firing and rehiring of coach Bruce Pearl.... That's me tho.. GO VOLS!

Auburn needs more basketball fans; they certainly don't have many.

"The social culture of the men’s basketball program has vastly improved under Cuonzo’s leadership."

Interesting.

Definitely interesting. I bet there is a books worth of stories behind this. Notice the term "program", not "players". Loved what the previous coach was able to accomplish here, but he played fast and loose with said "social culture" IMO concerning the players, staff, and with himself personally it seems.

I'm glad Martin is staying. Did not seeing it helping us if he changed jobs. Another coaching change and most certainly a "google his name" type of project coach would have probably set us back again.

If he holds Stokes for his 3rd full year, then next season will have a lot of promise. I expect Thompson, Moore, Davis, and Hubbs to all make major strides next season. Add the TSU big for the year and I see us contending in the dance.

Lose Stokes, and whiff on the transfer, and I see us forced to play small ball. We have some athletes, but it could be a long season.
