Buzz Williams leaving Marquette had more to do with him having a fallout with the administration that going to a "power conference". The Marquette job is not beneath the UT job and its actually the opposite, regardless of what you want to tell yourself.

Marquette better than UT?

do people not understand what pearl did his last year here...the ride was ending. he won 19 games with hopson (who never developed), first round player tobias harris, hall, maymon, golden, fields, goins, woolridge, mcrae, mcbee, and little steven. when a majority of those guys left, cuonzo had to build off of nothing. so tired of crappy tennessee fans who have nothing better to do than complain...bunch of middle aged men sitting around with their lives in a trash can looking for something to hold onto so they can get their exciting little thrills of playing "exciting" basketball while only winning 19 games. crap if you ask me.

Not only historically, but they have been to the Sweet 16 3 out of the last 4 years and the elite 8 last year........

And yet 5* kids are just lining up to play there its such an awesome program. Marquette is a stepping stone job for the vast majority of coaches.

In comparison to UT, yes, it is an awesome program with a ton more tradition and recent success than our Vols, no matter how deep you want to plant your face in the sand.

And a mediocre coach like Cuonzo, who knows half the fan base doesn't like him, still won't leave UT for Marquette.

Talk about head in the sand.

Sounds like you are taking that Martin has turned them down and Marquette didnt just say "we're not interested". The numbers and records dont lie, Marquette>>UT as a program historically and recently, unless you are only counting one year (this year).

you left off a part.....Martin>Pearl at bad coaching.

Maybe he didn't get that lesson in school where the alligator eats the one that is greater. He's clearly got it backwards because Pearl was clearly more successful than Martin has even thought about being. Just a mistake on his part I'm sure! :detective:

I'm considering the fact that a quality D1 coach has never left a good job for Marquette. The best high school players stay away from Marquette.

And yes, Cuonzo did turn them down. And so did Kevin O'neill.

The stuff about the ride ending is ridiculous and doesn't even deserved to be addressed.

But the issue I am going to pick is Scottie Hopson, who improved every season he was here. His PPG, FG%, FT%, and 3pt % improved every season he was here and was First Team All-SEC as a junior.

Not sure why he's so vilified. Great former Vol. Hope he does well with the Cavs.

Wrote this opinion piece as I thought Cuonzo was headed for Marquette. All feedback is welcomed!

Helluva Letter, Im with you! Im in for Cuonzo since day 1.. The fan support is ridiculous.. He has done nothing but fight for his players.. Way to go "Vol Fans"

So you started a thread just to speculate that kids may want to play for him after the tournament? Wow.

No worse than the ones already starting threads asking "what happens when we suck next season?" At least the OP was speculating about a positive rather than a negative. But to each their own.

Them hiring wojo is further proof that in the history of Marquette, a quality coach hadn't left a good job for the Marquette job. They still have a perfect record of being a stepping stone job.
