Martin has EARNED an extension and a raise

Just stop... No way Martin should be in the bottom half of Sec for coach's salary. First year was mess and nobody thought we were doing much. He had a nice run and everybody got their hopes up and were let down by the nit. He over achieved that year. Second year we were about where most thought we would be, if we make it in like we should have everybody would have looked at the season different. To me this year the team undrrachieved a bit and should have been safely in. He has made up for it in the tourney though. We beat a solid Iowa team and handled a UMASS te easily. Martin should get a hefty raise and an extension. I do however hope they can keep the buyout low. Who knows what next year will bring but I would give him 2 more years at the very least. Martin is a good coach and I believe he will get better with time.
Also people forget this is his sixth year as a head coach, third at Tn and he's got them in the sixteen. That's not luck that's coaching. That's setting a foundation for what he wants.

The idiocy of this fan base to entertain bringing in another coach is amazing. Some of you are looking like laughing stocks on national television by your own doing. The perception of you morons is well deserved. The word is out on how Zo is treated and if you think a home run coach is coming in here if Zo were to leave you're dumber than they already think you are. The under appreciation of Zo has been the story line and it's fascinating some of you can't see it.

Oh look, another "I told you so" post. Weeeeee

He should stay, unless he starts flopping.

My biggest concern is that he will bolt.

He got an extension after his 2nd year at Missouri St. Look what happened after his 3rd.

Ahhh so you didn't like Pearl because he left UW-M? Lmao, solid logic.

Who would you propose we hire that has never coached at another school? Just promote Brandon Lopez to HC?

Pay the man. At least so he making more than that jackwagon at Vandy. 2.2 plus 3more years should be good.

And he's done more with it than 1/3 of your loverboy's years, taking advantage of the great fortune (unlike a certain year where not blowing it late and a championship game appearance was very likely due to the great draw). Get over it. You're just mad that he's dancing and winning games so you are trying to discredit it because he's not a certain other coach.

I don't have homosexual proclivities so you must be thinking of your own hidden desires with this post.

You can't argue against my points about backing into the tournament, getting a good draw, still being under contract, or much of anything else so you turn to mudslinging.

Typical Vol Nation d bag response. Congratulations. You're like a couple thousand other posters on here.

As for the OP...

Yea, Martin has definitely earned an extension and a raise, way to go Zo.

He also just got a $75k bonus, on top of the $50k bonus for just making the NCAAT. Say he's a pretty damn happy man tonight.

Martin has answered every question the correct way so I am hoping he is here for a long, long time.

This kind of excitement is what has been missing the last 2 years and is all most of us want out of any of the teams at Tennessee. I hope CCM understands that's why some of us were not on board his train till now.

We now have HOPE and RESULTS and that is all a fan can ask for from their team.

Bottom line IMO is that winning cures all.

Do more of it and Vol Nation will be one big d-mned happy Brady Bunch.

UT better add some years and money to his contract or somebody could come along and hire him away.

I don't agree he should make as much as Pearl as Pearl's resume is still better; but he definitely should be no worse than the 4th highest paid coach in the SEC.

Totally agree. It sends a bad message to recruits, the team, fans, other schools and the national media if Tennessee's coach is making less than the coach at Auburn. With all of the success this year, especially after all of the complaining, time to get out the check book. Pay the man!

Agree. No need to get carried away. Pearls resume trumps Martin's by a long shot, however what Martin does over the next week could change this a bit.

Not sure how I feel about this. When we hired him, we didn't say "we will pay you this much to play mediocre basketball, but increase it if you don't suck". He took that deal and set out to win games. Which was what we hired him for. Now if someone makes him a better offer, we can talk about increasing his bank account. But I don't like this notion that we are paying a guy seven figures to just do enough to not get fired.

He can't be 4th highest paid coach in the SEC without making what Pearl is making.

Man, I see a lot of coaches just flat out stealing money.

It really doesn't matter how much they pay him. If he wants to stay here, he'll be rewarded. Tennessee isn't a tight wad when it comes to paying coaches.
