Martin has EARNED an extension and a raise

Some people see reality, some people are deluded. Tell me your thoughts on Martin next year at this time. Don't let one week out of 3 years cloud your judgement.

Does your opinion change on CCM at all if we win tomorrow? I'm not as enamored as many on here about the great achievement of getting to the round of 32, but I always thought it would be foolish to fire him after this season regardless of whether we made the tournament or not. He won 20 games here in his first 2 seasons, you don't fire a guy in year three if you expect to hire anyone worth a damn after.

Regardless of what tomorrow's outcome is, CCM definitely deserves a raise and a small extension, we do not want to set a precedent at Tennessee that we don't reward coaches for a successful season. With that said, a long extension would be foolish at this point. Cuonzo could be the next Coach K or he could be the second coming of Jerry Green, after year 5 we will have a better idea of which one he is.

Interesting, you stand by your statement even though it has been proven wrong by actual facts?

It wasn't proven wrong, if we continued to play the way we had there was no way we were making the NCAAT. Also what I said had to do with the crap conference we are in not helping us get in, which proved to be true as well. 3 teams got in and 1 was a play-in.

My opinion doesn't change on CCM if we beat Mercer, nor should it. If we beat Michigan, then we can start talking about possibly changing attitudes on CCM.

So you saw no way in hell that U.T. was going to make the tournament.

They made the tournament.

You stand be the statement that you saw no way in hell that U.T. was going to make the tournament.

Got it, makes sense. Also, The S.E.C. is current.y 5-0, so the talent at the top of the conference seems to be ok.

So why would you be so confident to say we lose to (team x) no matter what?

With Pearl finally off the table I don't think you fire the guy but if some other program wants to wrap him up for the next 3-5 years at 2.5 million a year or so then I say you let them.

Absolutely. It is both deserved and necessary - i'm sure if we don't lock CCM up with long term lucrative contract someone else will (and soon).

Best thing for our program is for another school to lock him up with a long term contract.

Finished 4th in a crap conference due to lots of bad losses and exited the SEC tourney in the Semi's. Barely got in the NCAAT with a play-in game but did get a lucky draw in the NCAAT and made the most of it. It is what it is. Martin has done nothing deserving of a raise or extension. If I was AD his butt would be walking after Michigan beats us down.

We still finished with 20 wins and made the NCAA'S. That was the expectation. You seem to believe we were top 10 or even top 25. It doesn't matter the individual losses if we still ended where we are supposed to be. He has met or exceeded projections each year.

Out of curiosity, how's that the best thing?

Are you saying we can't do any worse than Zo?

We could do much worse but we also could do much better. It took him almost 2 years to get these guys playing, he has shown bad in game decisions and his recruiting is, well how many top 100 kids we have commited?

He's not the guy for the future. Next year will be a bad year, then what?

And I agree we could do much better...but I've got little faith in Hart to go out and hire Gregg Marshall. Ben Howland will likely already be employed, Buzz Williams has already switched schools, Pearl has gotten a new job. Who are all these likely candidates that you feel Hart could go out and land with significantly better resumes?

How can you assure me next year is a bad year? Stokes very well could return, we are in the market for a graduate transfer, and have a 5* returning at a position of need.

Martins saving grace would be Stokes coming back.

Look I could be wrong and Zo might turn out to be a solid coach, I doubt I am but anything could happen. I don't like his style of play and paint drying personality. All I need to know about Zo was when he didn't say a word during the UF game when Maymon was called for a BS foul and even worse technical.

I have more faith in Hart than Zo.

BTW I am on record stating CBP was never coming back.

That's all fine, but you didn't answer my question. Who out there do you think we realistically could hire that's gonna be better than Zo?

I have a better idea. How about if we make the final 4 you show some mercy towards your fellow Vol basketball fans and agree to stop posting on the basketball forum as long as CCM is our coach?

He needs to take a recruiting lesson from Butch, or take CBJ with him..GBO

2 Different people. Not a matter off skill, diff personalities. Also, did he not bring in Stokes? Has Jordan not blossomed under him? Has JRich not emerged as a stellar defender? Can we give this guy any credit? (Questions not directed at you,MajorVol)
